[01] Akinci and Erhurman met with participants in the "international rally of classic automobiles"

Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeni Duzen (20.11.18) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci met yesterday at his office with the teams which have participated in the so-called 8th international classic car rally held in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus within the framework of the celebrations for the breakaway regime's "declaration of independence".

Speaking during the meeting, Akinci described the rally as "a gathering" and made reference to "solidarity, promotion and meeting with the beauties of our country". "At the same time, it is an opening to the international arena, even though it is limited", he argued adding that this was why he considered important the participation of teams from Turkey and Germany in the rally. Akinci wished for this participation to increase next year.

The teams met also with Tufan Erhurman, self-styled prime minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of Cyprus, who also said that the participation of teams from Turkey and Germany in the rally was important and promised that they would organize a bigger activity next year.

[02] The deficiencies in the occupied side of the Deryneia and Apliki barricades will reportedly be overcome in two months

Turkish Cypriot newspaper Halk?n Sesi (20.11.18) reports that the self-styled ministry of public works and transport has announced that the deficiencies regarding the infrastructure in the occupied side of the barricades in Deryneia and Apliki areas would be completed within two months.

In a written statement, the "ministry" recalls that the above-mentioned barricades opened on 12 November and notes that since then a large number of crossings was observed and the deficiencies in the occupied northern part of the crossing points "attracted the attention".

The statement said: "The tender procedure regarding the permanent infrastructure at the aforementioned gates has been completed, the construction works at both gates have started and it is estimated that the works at both gates will be completed in approximately two months".

[03] A "decree" on occupied Famagusta area's development causes reactions

Turkish Cypriot newspaper Halk?n Sesi (20.11.18) reports that the self-styled ministry of interior has prepared a "decree" regarding the occupied areas of Famagusta, Trikomo and Agios Sergios aiming at "planned development". With the "decree" a limitation to the [number of] floors of the buildings to be constructed in these areas will be set and the construction in some areas will be prohibited.

Meanwhile, tension was created yesterday in occupied Famagusta during a briefing on the draft of this "decree". Businessmen of the area described this draft as a "political" move. The meeting was postponed when the tension escalated.

Moreover, briefing yesterday the "assembly" on the "decree", Aysegul Baybars, self-styed interior minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of Cyprus, said that the "decree" was prepared for preventing arbitrary and unplanned development and would be in force until a "development plan" was ready. She noted that the development plan for these areas would be put into effect at the end of next year.

[04] Harmanci met with the mayor of Sor-Varanger municipality

Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Bakis newspaper (20.11.18) reports that the mayor of the occupied part of Lefkosia, Mehmet Harmanci met with the mayor of the municipality of Sor-Varanger, in Finnmark county, Norway, Rune Gjertin Rafaelsen. The meeting took place at the municipality of the occupied part of Lefkosia.

According to the paper, Harmanci briefed Rafaelsen on the issue of the crossing points in Cyprus. Also, the two mayors exchanged views on a possible agreement to be signed between the two municipalities, aiming to the reinforcement of their ties.

The paper writes further that Rafaelsen invited Harmanci to visit Norway.

[05] The "Turkish Cypriot municipalities' union" to attend a summit of UCLG-MEWA in Sanliurfa

Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Bakis newspaper (20.11.18) reports that the "Turkish Cypriot municipalities' union" and the "mayor" of occupied Morfou, Mahmut Ozcinar will be attending the "United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting and UCLG-MEWA Urban Mobility Sanl?urfa Summit" which will be held on 20-22 November 2018, under the auspices of Sanl?urfa Metropolitan Municipality.

According to the paper, the Speaker of the Turkish National Assembly (TBMM), Binali Yildirim will also be attending the summit.

[01] Erdogan-Putin mark completion of offshore section of Turkish Stream

Turkish Hurriyet Daily News (20.11.18 http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/erdogan-putin-mark-completion-of-offshore-section-of-turkish-stream-139005) reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and ??? Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin attended Monday a ceremony marking the completion of the construction of the offshore section of the TurkStream project, a gas pipeline that will carry Russian gas to Turkey and Europe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Erdogan said that TurkStream natural gas project had many advantages not only for Turkey, but also for neighboring countries.

Erdogan called Russia a "reliable partner for Turkey" and an "important" natural gas provider that Turkey can cooperate with in the long run. Russia's Gazprom says offshore part of TurkStream is acomplete TurkStream natural gas pipeline project will be ready to operate in 2019 after tests are carried out, said President Erdogan.

Erdogan said Turkey's goal was to reach a bilateral trade volume of $100 billion with Russia, adding that Turkey purchased 387 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia since 1987.

President Erdogan further said that Turkey's solidarity with the Russian president and people will pave the way for bigger projects for both countries in the future.

On his part, Putin said that Turkey was becoming an important international energy hub, as the TurkStream pipeline project becomes a reality. Becoming an energy hub will strengthen Turkey's geopolitical position, Putin said at the ceremony alongside Erdogan. The construction of the TurkStream will have a positive impact on the development of the whole Black Sea region and will be an important safeguard for European energy security, he added.

The completion of the most difficult section of the gas pipeline testifies to the effective cooperation between Turkey and Russia in very important and complex areas, said Putin. According to Putin, the basis of the project's success is trust between the two countries.

"I am sure that the TurkStream, as well as our other joint project -- the Akkuyu nuclear power plant -- will become a bright symbol of the development of a multifaceted Russian-Turkish partnership, and a symbol of friendship between our peoples," he said.

The Russian leader said the gas pipeline's construction was being carried out in accordance with the highest technological and environmental standards. He said he also expected the construction of the land section to be finished quickly as well.

Echoing Erdogan's words setting a Turkish-Russian trade target of $100 billion a year, Putin said he "had no doubts" the two countries would achieve this goal.The TurkStream project is an export gas pipeline set to cross beneath the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey and also further extend to Turkey's borders with neighboring countries.TurkStream's first line is set to carry 15.75 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Turkey. With a second line that goes to Europe, the project is to have a capacity of 31.5 bcm per year.

TurkStream consists of two lines from Russia to Turkey, with a total capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters. The first line will carry 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey and the second line will transfer the gas to Europe via Turkey.

[02] Turkish Minister of Energy Fatih Donmez: The TurkStream natural gas pipeline project will help Turkey's aim of becoming a natural gas trading hub

Turkish daily Yeni Safak (20.11.18 https://www.yenisafak.com/en/news/turkstream-is-key-step-for-turkey-as-gas-trading-center-3466805) reports that the TurkStream natural gas pipeline project will help Turkey's aim of becoming a natural gas trading hub, according to Fatih Donmez, Turkey's energy and natural resources minister on Monday.

Donmez, speaking at the commemoration ceremony for the completion of the project's sea section with the participation of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, hailed the project as the opening of a new page for Turkey's energy market.

Donmez said that Turkey's aim to become an energy hub country was supported through strong political will and stability in the country.

"Turkey aims to become an energy center, where buyers and sellers meet and where prices are determined," he said adding that the country was taking important steps for this goal via the TurkStream project, which he said would be a uniting factor in the countries where the gas is transferred.

He asserted that Turkey has acted as a good partner and neighbor in its immediate region in projects of mutual interest to provide secure energy supplies as in the TurkStream project.

"The TurkStream natural gas pipeline project is the most vivid example of our vision [Turkey's aim to become a gas hub]. Gas flow from TurkStream will start in 2019 and this will eliminate risks on transmission and transfer of natural gas," Donmez said.

[03] Cavusoglu, Guterres discuss Khashoggi murder and Cyprus

Turkish daily Yeni Safak (20.11.18 https://www.yenisafak.com/en/news/cavusoglu-guterres-discuss-khashoggi-murder-3466816) reports that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met behind closed doors Tuesday to discuss the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The pair met after Cavusoglu spoke at the 8th Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, which was held at the UN headquarters in New York.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric noted that in addition to discussing Khashoggi's killing, Cavusoglu and Guterres also talked about the wars in Yemen and Syria, as well as Cyprus.

[04] Turkish lawmaker appointed as NATO parliament deputy head

Ankara Anatolia news agency (20.11.18 https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/turkish-lawmaker-appointed-nato-parliament-deputy-head/1315862) reports that the head of the Turkish delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) has taken up a new role.

Osman Askin Bak, lawmaker of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), was on Monday appointed as deputy president of NATO PA.

Turkey has been a member of NATO for 66 years, while the Turkish army is the second strongest army of the military alliance, after the U.S. armed forces.
