[01] Statements by Eide after meeting with Akinci: "We no longer have any time to waste"

According to illegal Bayrak television (online, 16.06.15), the UN Special Adviser to Cyprus Espen Barth Eide met separately with the two leaders on Tuesday and attended also the meeting of the two negotiators.

Speaking to reporters after a 20 minute meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, Eide said that he held a constructive and positive meeting with Mr Ak?nc? during which they discussed preparations for Wednesday's leaders meeting.

Eide who refrained from giving out any more details of the meeting stated that the process is moving forward in a positive atmosphere. He also said that the negotiators of the two leaders are doing a perfect job as the process is heading towards a settlement.

Pointing out that he saw a sincere desire on both sides towards a settlement, Eide called on the two leaders to use their time in the best way possible. "We no longer have any time to waste" he added.

[02] Works to open the Derinya crossing point are launched; So-called minister of interior inspected the area

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi newspaper (16.06.15) reported that the works to open the Derinya crossing point within the framework of a decision taken by the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Ak?nc? and the Greek Cypriot leader, as the President of the Republic of Cyprus is called, Nicos Anastasiades, has started.

The so-called "minister of interior" and acting "foreign minister" Teberruken Ulucay held inspections in the area receiving information from "officials" about the route and site of the crossing point.

The two leaders had announced the opening of the Aplic in Lefka and Derinya crossing points at their last meeting on the 28th of May.

Work to open the crossing point at the Apl?c in Lefka has also commenced.

Ulucay was accompanied during his tour in the area by the so-called presidential undersecretary Gurdal Hudaoglu, the "undersecretary" of the "interior ministry" Hasan Alicik and other "officials".

[03] Akinci: The solution of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation is on the negotiating table

Turkish Cypriot daily Ortam (17.06.15) reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci claimed that the right of the Turkish Cypriot youth to play sports has been usurped for the one or another reason, adding that they do not intent to abandon anymore this "usurped right".

Speaking during the end-of-season soccer awards night, Akinci stressed that in a Cyprus settlement they will attain their rights, however, they will fight in order to be able to use these rights during the ongoing process for the solution. Akici also said: "Our federation (Turkish Cypriot football federation) is in a process with KOP (Cyprus Football Association ? CFA). This process continues with ups and downs? In this field the Turkish Cypriot youth has rights. These rights have been usurped". Akinci further said that the existence of the "KTFF" will continue and after the Cyprus settlement.

He also said that although the awards are only "local", these are still important, but described them as "insufficient".

Commenting on the fact that the Greek Cypriot political party EDEK has removed from their agenda the bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, Akinci said that this has not been in force, and added that the solution, which is at the negotiating table is a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation and this is supported by the majority of the Greek Cypriot community.

[06] Erdogan: "Morsi death penalty a massacre of rights and freedoms"

Turkish daily Sabah (16.06.15) reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned Egyptian court's death penalty decision against the country's first democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi, saying the verdict is a massacre of rights and freedoms.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Erdogan stated that Turkey urges the international community to take action against the death penalty decision on Morsi.

The judicial process in which Morsi and 105 others were sentenced to death on Tuesday shows that the current Sissi regime has "trampled on law" in the country, according to Erdogan.

"In order to reinstate social compromise and stability in Egypt, it is of vital importance that the death sentence given to Morsi and other defendants be reversed," Erdogan said.

"Turkey wishes that common sense, democracy, and law prevail in Egypt and Turkey will always be on Egyptian people's side", Erdogan further said.

Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also released a statement on Tuesday, condemning the death sentence.

The statement noted that the death sentence will not contribute in any manner to the social peace and stability necessary in Egypt, while calling the Egyptian authorities to revoke the decision before it is too late, for the interests of Egypt and the region.

Also speaking on the issue, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on a separate occasion on Tuesday that the Egyptian court's decision to sentence former President Mohamed Morsi to death was based on politics, not the law. "There is no law, there is no justice," Cavusoglu said during a news conference broadcast live by TRT state television.

"We weren't actually surprised... to see such a political verdict from a regime like that," he added.

Morsi, Egypt's first democratically-elected President, was ousted by the country's military in July 2013 after only one year in office, following mass protests against his rule.

[07] Business organizations and unions in Turkey called for speedy formation of a coalition government

Turkish daily Today's Zaman (16.06.15) reported that the business organizations and unions have urged the formation of a coalition government at the earliest, saying that a government is required to take measures against risks emanating from the global economic uncertainty and political instability in neighboring countries.

Representatives of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) as well as unions including the Civil Servants' Trade Union (Memur-Sen), the Confederation of Turkish Real Trade Unions (Hak-Is) and the Confederation of Turkish Labor Unions (Turk-Id) met with acting Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday and conveyed their hopes for a speedy formation of a coalition government.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation at a press conference after the meeting with Davutoglu, TOBB President R?fat Hisarc?kl?oglu said the electorate demands that the political parties in Parliament reconcile and form a coalition government, adding that holding a snap election would be a waste of time.

"An early election would not bring a lasting solution to the structural problems in our country and would cause a loss of time. We thus desire the formation of a government based on current numbers [of Deputies] in Parliament. We are at a critical point where global economic uncertainties are increasing again and [economic] risks have begun to be felt more. The economic and political turmoil in the neighboring region is also on the rise. A new government should form at the soonest in order to be prepared for and take the necessary measures against all these developments," Hisarc?kl?oglu said.

He also said that the business world expects the new government to bring Turkey's bid to enter the EU onto its agenda and proceed with the required structural reforms in the accession process.

Meanwhile, Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) board members headed by Chairwoman Cansen Basaran-Symes met with Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal K?l?sdaroglu on Tuesday as part of the organization's visit to all the political parties in Parliament.

In a press conference following the meeting with K?l?cdaroglu, Basaran-Symes said that the representatives from the business world discussed with the CHP leader the necessity of a speedy formation of a government.

"We informed [K?l?cdaroglu of] the desire of the business world that a government be formed quickly with the reconciliation [of parties]. We [also] shared the priorities of the business world, such as democratization, [favorable] conditions for investments and sustainable development," said Bacaran-Symes.

The Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD), headed by President Nail Olpak also met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday as part of MUSIAD's visit to political party leaders to discuss the new government.

Speaking to reporters after a one-and-a-half-hour long meeting with Erdogan, Olpak said that MUSIAD prefers not to interfere in the political mechanisms during the formation of the new government by declaring any preferences for certain parties.

Meanwhile, coalition talks are already under way behind closed doors between representatives of parties, but the talks will formally begin only after the Supreme Election Board (YSK) announces the official results of the election.

Following the YSK's announcement, which is expected to be made by June 20, President Erdogan will first assign Davutoglu, interim Prime Minister and leader of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), to form the government.
