[01] Eroglu: "If am elected, within two years, I will lead the negotiations to a result"

Replying to criticism against him that he does not embrace the Joint Declaration, Eroglu said: "Nobody forced me to sign anything, and nobody can. I have signed the joint declaration and it is not true that I do not advocate it. I say that the TRNC and its people are sovereign. What does the joint declaration say? It says that the sovereignty arises from the two people. It says that two founding states of equal status will constitute the federal structure. That means that there are two sovereign sides. That means also that my people are sovereign. After all, if you are not sovereign, then you cannot establish a partnership republic", Eroglu said.

Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes (05.03.15) reports that Eroglu, in statements during a visit to occupied Trikomo within the framework of his election campaign, stated that he is candidate in order to lead the negotiation talks to a result within two years. "After I get elected, I will put forward a time limit to the negotiations. The negotiations have been going on since 1968 and no one has the right to keep Turkish Cypriots on the table this long", Eroglu stated.

Referring to the talks, Eroglu accused once more the Greek Cypriot side for having excessive demands and alleged that there has been peace in the island since 1974.

Claiming that the "atmosphere of peace" in the island derives from the presence of Turkish troops, Eroglu underlined that what is missing is the agreement.

[02] Ertug replies to Mavroyiannis and Christodoulides' statements

In a written statement, Ertug pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot side has been ready for a long time for the resumption of the Cyprus negotiation talks and referred to Turkish Cypriot leader's Dervis Eroglu recent statement that he will be at the table until the day before the April 19 "elections".

Commenting also to recent statements made by the Government's Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides to Kibris newspaper that in case Turkey does not renew NAVTEX, the negotiations could start again from the point where they stopped, Ertug said that the Turkish Cypriot side has never presented as a precondition for the resumption of the talks the complete suspension of the "Greek Cypriot administration's hydrocarbon works". "We have never put on the table such a precondition, but if ENI continues its work in spite of the resumption of the talks, then the Turkish Cypriot side will give the necessary response as it did in the past", Ertug added.

He made these comments speaking during a conference regarding the development plan of Turkey for the "TRNC". The conference was organized by the illegal Lefka University.

Akca stated that the national income of the breakaway regime is 15,000 dollars. He said that there are 40,000 Turkish students and 20,000 foreign students that study at the illegal universities in the occupied area of Cyprus, adding that the spending of the students increase the national income by 25-30%. He also said that 25% of the persons living in the breakaway regime are public sector employees while the rest 75% are employed by the private sector. Akca said that the financial aid of Turkey towards the breakaway regime will continue.

[04] Davutoglu started his contacts in New York - Cyprus on his agenda at his meeting with Ban Ki-moon

He will meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday to discuss global issues including Syria, Iraq and Cyprus. On Friday, he will address the UN General Assembly on gender equality and the empowerment of women. Accompanying Davutoglu was Ali Babacan, deputy prime minister responsible for the economy, and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek.

Reporting on the same issue, Turkish daily Sabah (04.03.15) reports that in a meeting with a group of Goldman Sachs investors in New York, Davutoglu said political and economic stability are interdependent and Turkey has both. Turkey is an "island of stability" with a vision for the future and consistent economic growth", he stated. "If you don't have political stability, even if you have an excellent economic vision, you cannot realize it. We should altogether establish a social environment in which smokers are chided and drug addicts are treated like they are ill," Erdogan said during a speech on Wednesday night. Erdogan also voiced concerns over the possibility of an increase in alcohol consumption across Turkey. "All these bad habits are like hulks of a disastrous chain which feed each other," he said.

The association, the first of its kind in any Muslim-majority country, was officially founded in Istanbul's Asian-side neighborhood of Kadikoy in April 2014. As of March 4, Turkish internet users could not access www.ateizmdernegi.org without using tools to bypass blockings, such as a VPN.

The court ruling cites Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Law, which forbids "provoking the people for hate and enmity or degrading them" . In the past, the Turkish government or the courts blocked access to a number of popular websites, including YouTube and Twitter. More than 66,000 websites remain blocked in Turkey.
