[01] Ertug: "Natural resources is a common property of the two people of Cyprus"

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (20.11.14) reports that the Turkish Cypriot negotiator Osman Ertug stated that "natural resources are a common property of the two people of Cyprus".

Ertug, who issued a written statement, described as "empty engagement" the statements of the Greek Cypriot side that resources can be shared between the two sides in Cyprus after a solution is reached on the Cyprus problem, claiming that these statements deny Turkish Cypriots' equal rights on the natural gas resources.

He also claimed that these resources do not only belong to the "so-called Cyprus state" (as he called the Republic of Cyprus), but are a common property of the two "people" and this was accepted by the former Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias. He also said that they expect the Greek Cypriot side to adopt a contemporary stance on this issue and to act in the logic of sharing.

He also said that they expect from the Greek Cypriot side to return to the negotiation table.

[02] Toros military exercise to be cancelled this year as well

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (20.11.14) reports that the Turkish Cypriot negotiator Osman Ertug stated that while waiting for the Greek Cypriot side to return to the negotiation table, the Turkish Cypriot side continues to take constructive steps. In this framework, he said the Toros military exercise will be cancelled this year as well.

He also said that they made the necessary contacts and arrangements with "motherland and guarantor country" Turkey regarding this issue.

[03] Y?ld?z: "The natural resources in and around Cyprus belongs to all inhabitants of the island"

According to illegal Bayrak television (19.11.4) Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Y?ld?z has said that the natural resources in and around Cyprus belong to all inhabitants of the island.

Speaking to reporters following a conference organized by the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Commission titled "Building a Euro-Mediterranean energy bridge", Y?ld?z also said that a sustainable structure could only be possible through cooperation in the Mediterranean.

The Turkish Energy Minister's words came in reference to the ongoing hydrocarbon exploration activities of the Greek Cypriot side off the coast of Cyprus.

Y?ld?z highlighted the importance of sharing any revenues to be derived from the exploitation of natural resources surrounding Cyprus. "Our sensitivities and priorities are clear. You need a stable and feasible political structure so that economic feasibilities can emerge", Yildiz said.

[04] The so-called "presidency" denies allegations that Eroglu announced his "candidacy" for the forthcoming "presidential elections"

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi (19.11.14-online in English) reported that the so-called presidential office in the occupied area of Cyprus said in a written statement yesterday that the news which emerged today in Turkey and "north Cyprus" in which it is claimed that Eroglu has declared his candidacy "do not reflect the truth."

"The news which emerged in several Turkish and north Cyprus press agencies that our president Dervis Eroglu has declared his a candidacy in the presidential elections do not reflect the truth. As can be remembered, in the statement given by our president to the public, he had noted that after the 15th of November he will make the necessary evaluations and announce whether he will be a candidate or not.

Our president has not given a statement about this subject to any local or foreign press member. He has not stated that 'I am a candidate.' Our president Eroglu would make such a statement first to the north Cyprus media before any other media institution", the statement said.

[05] Erk: A federal solution a one-war road for the people of Cyprus; alternative is hell

Turkish Cypriot daily Halkin Sesi newspaper (20.11.14) reports that the general secretary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Kutlay Erk, stated that a federal solution is a one-way road for the people of Cyprus, adding that there is no alternative.

Erk, who was speaking during a television program, stated that the alternative to this is "hell".

He also said that the negotiations are in deadlock for the time being and added that the UN special representative in Cyprus Eide is trying to find ways to overcome it. He also argues that the moment President Anastasiades returns to the negotiation table, the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will try to find ways to leave the negotiations. On the opening of Varosha, Erk stated that they are open for suggestions for the establishment of a technical committee which will help towards the confidence building measures. He also said that it is in nobody's business that this area remains in this condition.

[06] Receptions were held in Qatar, Brussels and Azerbaijan for the establishment of the breakaway regime

The Turkish Cypriot press reports today (20.11.14) regarding the receptions organized abroad for the celebration of the establishment of the breakaway regime.

Star Kibris reports that at the reception held in Doha, Qatar, which was organized by the "TRNC representative", "envoys from foreign embassies, diplomats and businessmen" were present (names were not given). Speaking at the reception, "TRNC representative in Doha" thanked Qatar for the assistance offered to the breakaway regime at the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and called on Qatari businessmen to make investments in the occupied area of Cyprus.

The paper writes that a reception was also held in Brussels were many Turkish officials that hold duties in Brussels participated. The paper writes that Sir Graham Watson, former UK Liberal Democrat MEP and former leader of the Liberal ALDE group in the European Parliament also participated in the reception.

Reporting on the same issue, Kibris writes that a reception was held in Azerbaijan as well.

[07] Baroness Ece calls Turkish Cypriots who live in the UK to be united

Under the title: "The Turkish Cypriots do not do anything", Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (20.11.14) reports on statements by Baroness Meral Huseyin Ece who headed the delegation of the "TRNC Friendship Group of the British Parliament" which is currently in the breakaway regime on the occasion of the UDI.

Speaking to a correspondent of illegal TAK, Baroness Ece, said, inter alia, that if the Turkish Cypriots who live in the UK achieve to be united, they could also achieve to have more influence in the British Parliament.

Baroness Ece has been working at the House of Lords since 2010, said that the Turkish Cypriots who live in the UK do not the necessary influence since they are not united enough and this, as she said, offers Greek Cypriots the opportunity to pressure British MP's to not support the Turkish Cypriots. "I've witnessed several times the pressure exerted by Greek Cypriots to British MP's. Greek Cypriots even go to the offices of the MPs in order to pressure them. On the other hand, Turkish Cypriots do nothing (?)".

Ece stated further that Turkish Cypriots living in the UK are pessimistic about the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Referring to the NGO organization in London called "Embargoed", Ece called on the association to carry out lobbying activities in favor of the Turkish Cypriots and added that the best period for doing that is now since in May 2015 there will be Parliamentary elections in the UK.

Supporting the view that Turkey's public relation policy is insufficient in the UK as well as in the EU, Ece said that it is for this reason that the accusations against Turkey on the issue of natural gas are effective.

[08] So-called minister of environment and natural resources to visit Turkey

According to illegal Bayrak television (19.11.14) the so-called minister of environment and natural resources Hakan Dincyurek will pay an official visit to Turkey in order to hold contacts in Ankara and Istanbul.

During his contacts, Dincyurek will discuss the continuation and activation of current projects as well as the work being carried out on the common ground with Turkish Ministers.

Dincyurek and his accompanying delegation will return to the occupied area of Cyprus on Friday, after completing his contacts in Turkey.

[09] Turkey's EU Minister carries out contacts in Brussels

According to Turkish daily Sabah (19.11.14-online in English) the European Union Minister and Chief Negotiator, Volkan Bozk?r, is due to Luxembourg for a two-day meeting.

On the first day of his visit, Bozk?r will hold bilateral talks with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and chairman of the House of Representatives, Mars Di Bartolomeo, as well as members of the Foreign and European Affairs and Defense and Immigration Commission.

On the second day of the visit, Bozk?r will meet with Foreign and European Affairs Minister Jean Asselborn as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Etienne Schneider.

[10] Erdogan is set to form a team to monitor Cabinet

Turkish daily Hurriyet Daily News (20.11.14) invoking reliable sources, reports that the Turkish President Erdogan is set to establish a team to monitor the work of the Cabinet, despite putatively being above the political realm as the head of state.

Ahead of the Presidential elections in August, then-Prime Minister Erdogan had promised to be "a President who will follow the construction of airports, highways and the unity of the nation," and he is now taking the first concrete steps to review and evaluate the work of the legislative branch.

The assignment diagram of the Presidential team has already been prepared, but has yet to be publicized, Hurriyet has learned. The assignments will be made official following an amendment to the regulations after Erdogan formally moves into the gargantuan new Presidential complex in Ankara.

The team is expected to be formed and work as follows:

    * Special directorates will be formed in the Presidency. These units will report to the Presidency's Deputy Secretary-Generals on specific subjects.

    * Advisers working for the directorates will follow, evaluate and report on all the work of the ministries that they monitor. They will send the files to the deputy secretary-general who they report to.

    * Deputy Secretary-Generals will share this information with Erdogan.

    * Advisers will not only report about Ministries, they will also meet with each other, regardless of their area of expertise, to produce new ideas. A source in Ankara has likened their newly-defined function in the Presidency to a "think tank."

    * Two key issues to which Erdogan attaches great importance, the Kurdish peace bid and the government's fight against the "parallel structure" of Fethullah Gulen followers within the state, will be followed by the Interior Security Follow-Up Directorate. Presidential Secretary-General Ibrahim Kal?n, a close aide of Erdogan, is expected to chair this unit.

    * Investments, which is another issue to which Erdogan attaches great importance, will be monitored by the Investments Directorate. According to the source, Erdogan is considering appointing Izmir Deputy Binali Y?ld?r?m, a former Transport Minister, to chair the unit. If appointed, Y?ld?r?m will not officially be able to hold the new position so long as he remains a Deputy, at least until the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2015 TURKISH AFFAIRS SECTION
