[01] Turkey's MYK convened yesterday; MYK announced Turkey's decisiveness to undertake measures to protect the occupation regime's rights in the Eastern Mediterranean

Turkish daily Sabah (31.10.14-online in English) reported that Turkey's top officials held yesterday a National Security Council (MGK) meeting under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The meeting which lasted for more than 10 hours took place in the Cankaya Presidential Palace and was attended by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Deputy PMs Numan Kurtulmus and Yalc?n Akdogan, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and other top officials.

According to the statement released after the meeting, the Gulen Movement is defined as a national security threat by Turkey since it is accused of wiretapping thousands of people including Turkish government officials, encrypting phones and allegedly infiltrating state institutions with the aim of overthrowing the government.

The MGK meeting also focused on the road map to deal with the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and the latest attacks by the PKK, as well as the current situation regarding the reconciliation process.

Meanwhile, columnist Ugur Ergan in a commentary under the tile: "Record MYK meeting" in Turkish daily Hurriyet, (31.10.14-online in Turkish) refers to the meeting and writes that the statement issued after, said that the developments in the Aegean sea and the Eastern Mediterranean concerning the marine zones were examined. "Turkey expressed its decisiveness to undertake in the forthcoming period all the necessary measures in order to protect its rights and benefits in its own continental shelf as well as the TRNC's rights and benefits in the fields that it has been licensed by the TRNC, as guarantor country".

[02] Nami and Ertug react against the agreement between Cyprus, Greece and Egypt

Turkish Cypriot daily Halkin Sesi newspaper (31.10.14) reports that Ozdil Nami, self-styled foreign minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, has reacted against the call made by the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt on Turkey to end its illegal seismic explorations in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus. In statements to Halkin Sesi, Nami alleged that they are currently exerting "a very intense effort" for decreasing the tension created in the area and claimed that "unfortunately it is not possible to say that Egypt and Greece are positively contributing to these efforts".

Nami alleged that the decision of Greece to send warships to the area will not be a step towards improving the climate and criticizing Egypt's stance argued: "We find strange the fact that now Egypt made such a call on the Turkish side, while it made absolutely no step in the direction of supporting the efforts for a comprehensive solution and said absolutely nothing as regards the Greek Cypriot leader's leaving the negotiating table".

Moreover, Nami called on all the sides concerned to act knowing the "realities" on the island and on President Anastasiades to return to the negotiating table. He alleged: "All sides concerned should make their calls knowing the realities of Cyprus, acknowledging that both Turks and Greeks have equal rights on the island's natural resources and all the issues could be solved only at the negotiating table. We hope that the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades, who has caused all these tensions, to return to the negotiating table the soonest and materialize the comprehensive solution with us speedily. The neighboring countries' duty is to support this process and not to unnecessarily send their warships to the area and make a show [of power] against Turkey".

Nami argued that if Greece has power, it should use it in the direction of bringing the Greek Cypriot side back to the negotiating table.

Meanwhile, responding to the paper's questions on the same issue, Osman Ertug, spokesman of the Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu, alleged that the "Greek Cypriots-Greece duo" is holding activities which increase tension and expressed sorrow because Egypt has allegedly become an "instrument' to this. He argued that efforts are exerted to determine the future of the island by the two sides at the negotiating table and called on President Anastasiades to unconditionally return to the negotiating table and avoid policies that increase tension.

Recalling that Egypt is a member of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO), Ertug noted that decisions of the above-mentioned organization provide for solidarity with the "TRNC" and the Turkish Cypriot "people".

Ertug alleged that the Greek Cypriots cannot determine the future of the island alone by signing agreements with other countries. He argued that they expect President Anastasiades to avoid unilateral actions.

Referring to the decision of Greece to send a submarine and a frigate to the area, Ertug said that "this kind of escalation activities will benefit absolutely no one". "Complaining about the Turkish ships in the area on the one hand and sending their own ships on the other, constitutes a contradiction", he claimed reiterating the allegation that Turkish ships are in the area on behalf of the Turkish Cypriots. "We are determined in protecting our rights", he argued.

[03] Bozkir: Those who accept the existence of an island called Cyprus should not undervalue that there is a huge Turkey looking at the Mediterranean

Illegal Bayrak television (31.10.14) reports that Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkir stated that the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is not a concept that can be declared by the single statement of a country, but has to come off as a result of a mutual agreement between two states. He was commenting on the statements of the British Prime Minister David Cameron on the Republic of Cyprus' EEZ

Bozk?r made these statements replying to journalists' questions during a press conference where he announced the first phase of Turkey's National Action Plan for EU Accession yesterday in Ankara.

Bozkir stated that those who accept the existence of an island called Cyprus which is 40 miles away from Turkey, should not undervalue that there is a huge Turkey looking at the Mediterranean which also has an EEZ.

He also said that all the resources that exist or will exist in the island belong to the whole of the island. Therefore Turkey does not accept the "Greek Cypriot administration", (as he called the Republic of Cyprus) which dominates only half of the island, to be the owner of all the island's resources. Bozkir also said that they will by all means insist that all the resources of the island belong to the whole of the island and that they will continue to express a strong opinion over this issue until this is safeguarded.

[04] Eroglu to brief the "people" on the Cyprus problem

According to illegal Bayrak television (30.10.14), the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu is to launch contact meetings with "citizens" regarding the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.

In this framework, Eroglu will first address a meeting to be held on Saturday, the 1st of November in the occupied Karpasia region with the participation of the "citizens living" in the area.

Eroglu will also continue to hold contact meetings in other regions in the occupied area of Cyprus.

[05] Famagusta Initiative calls the two sides to return to negotiations and discuss natural gas and Confidence Building Measures

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (31.10.14) reports that the Famagusta Initiative issued a written statement calling the two sides in Cyprus to sit at the negotiation table and to discuss the natural gas issue and the Confidence Building Measures.

According to the statement, the Initiative stated that the natural gas and other issues should not prevent but to be useful tools towards the efforts for finding a solution.

[06] Sennaroglu: "Halloumi is a big blessing for the TRNC"

Under the above title, Turkish Cypriot daily Havadis newspaper (31.10.14) reports that the so-called minister of agriculture and energy Onder Sennaroglu speaking yesterday during the meeting of the so-called assembly, referred to the issue of the halloumi cheese and said that totally 70 company produce halloumi in Turkey.

Stating that the place for registration and production of halloumi cheese is the "TRNC", Sennaroglu said that they make the necessary attempts on the issue and added that what should be done is to explain the issue in a good manner and not to quarrel.

Supporting that they give a great importance on the efforts that will undertake in the EU on the issue of halloumi, Sennaroglu added that the "ministry" handles the issue with great kindness. He stressed further the need for the necessary resources to be found for the development of several projects related with halloumi cheese. "Halloumi is a great blessing for the TRNC and this blessing should be evaluated well", Sennaroglu said.

[07] Negative were the results of the analysis of the patients who were hospitalized on the suspicion of MERS virus in the occupied area of Cyprus

According to illegal Bayrak television (31.10.14-online in Turkish), the so-called ministry of health announced the analysis results of the patients who were taken in a hospital in occupied Lefkosia on the suspicion of MERS virus.

Speaking in a press conference, the "undersecretary" of the so-called ministry of health Dr Omer Gur said that none of the patients including the woman, who died the other day with MERS symptoms, are suffering from the MERS virus. [08] Bozkir announced the first phase of Turkey's EU action plan

Turkish daily Saban (31.10.14-online in English) reports that Turkey's EU Affairs Minister Volkan Bozk?r announced yesterday in Ankara, the first phase of Turkey's National Action Plan for EU Accession.

The plan was prepared in the context of "Turkey's New European Union Strategy" and the announced document is the first phase of the two-phase EU strategy and includes primary legislation, secondary legislation, institution building and other relevant work for aligning with EU legislation from November 2014 to June 2015.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference, Bozk?r said that the first part of the plan is an important guide for sustaining and strengthening the political reform process and socio-economic transformation. Bozk?r underlined that the National Actions Plan is a road map that puts forth Ankara's priorities to further political reforms and socio-economic transformation within the context of the EU accession process.

Bozk?r also said that the second part of the National Action Plan for EU Accession covering the period of 2015 to 2019, is expected to be announced in November, adding that the National Action Plan for EU Accession is the guarantee of their reform process.
