[01] Nami will inaugurate a new "representative office" in Budapest

Self-styled minister of foreign affairs Ozdil Nami has departed today for Hungary to inaugurate the "TRNC representative office" in Budapest and to hold a series of meetings during his visit.

Nami will be accompanied by Huseyin Ozel, the self-styled private secretary of the ministry of foreign affairs, during his contacts in Hungary.

Upon the conclusion of his contacts in Hungary, Nami will return to the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus next Sunday.

[02] New Turkish Cypriot negotiator says island's natural resources belong to both sides

Alleging that their aim is a win-win result for both sides, Olgun told the Anadolu Agency that the suspension of negotiations "was taken to be a blocking manoeuvre by the Greek side, reminding them that the island's natural resources belong to both parties".

Olgun claimed that the main reason for the suspension of the talks by the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades was "to protect the unfairly captured status quo by the Greeks in Cyprus and to continue their claim of being the unique owner of the island".

Olgun also touched upon the issue of natural resources on the island, saying that a well-led discovery of resources could be a strong gain for both sides but also a "curse if mismanaged". "Why cursed? Showing no respect for the rights of shareholders, selfishness and being unfair in their division are the main reasons for such a curse," he alleged.

[03] Turkish warships are still observing the drilling activities in Cyprus' EEZ

According to the statement, the Turkish warship has observed the platform from a distance of five nautical miles (nine kilometers), within the framework of its duties for the so-called Mediterranean Shield Operation.

The Turkish General Staff argued also that "harassing fire" has been opened against the Wireless Receiving Station of the Turkish Nautical Base Command in Alexandretta by an unknown person or persons and that the "fire" was responded immediately. The information is published on Turkish General Staff's website under the title "important domestic incidents".

[04] Siber briefed German academicians on the Cyprus talks

During the meeting, Siber briefed them on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem and the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot community from the international community. She asked from the international community to take an initiative in order the Greek Cypriot side to return again to the negotiating table, which has abandoned due to the crisis on the hydrocarbon exploration activities. She also said that the international community should not ignore the Turkish Cypriot community and instead of adapting the attitude of the "Greek Cypriot Administration" they should not avoid meeting with them (Turkish Cypriots) too.

[05] Talat: "CTP is more important for me than being a president"

"Time and the circumstances will show whether my road in the party will lead to my presidency," he said. Talat who was the guest on Ada TV stated that CTP was more important for him than the presidency, explaining how he will take a more active role within the party to contribute to the accumulating issues in the party.

[06] A new illegal university in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus

A delegation from the "Mediterranean University of Research and Science" headed by its" rector" Prof. Dr Hasan Koni paid a visit to the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Eroglu said that he was pleased to see a new "university" opening up in the "TRNC". "Efforts to establish this university has been continuing for years. A number of protocols have been signed with other universities. Classes are expected to commence soon", Dr Koni said, adding that they were proud to be setting up a new "university in the TRNC". "Every university set up in the TRNC proves its existence at a global level", he alleged.

[07] A delegation from Latvia is illegally visiting the occupation regime

The delegation which is headed by the "deputy director" of the Forestry organization of the Zemgale region in Latvia, Martin Lidums was briefed by Karzaoglu about the forestry activities in the occupied area, the planning, fires, the hunting and other issues.

Karzaoglu briefed also the delegation about several projects they have signed with Turkey for the development of forestry in the near future adding that they have also signed important activities with Turkey during the past years.

As reported, Lidums conveyed information about the technics and practices they follow in his country on the forestry sector.

[08] A Malaysian tourist agency to promote the occupation regime's history and tourism

According to the paper, the visitors from Malaysia who are in the occupied area of Cyprus since October 11, visited several areas in occupied Keryneia, Lefkosia and Famagusta and got information about several places. Also, a promotion meeting was organized yesterday at the Merit Crystal Cove hotel.

[09] Turkey in last-minute lobbying for Security Council bid

"Tonight marks the last checkpoint in our journey towards the United Nations Security Council elections for the 2015-2016 term," Cavusoglu said, referring to Thursday's U.N. General Assembly vote, which will elect five countries to serve in the chamber for a two-year period beginning on January 1.

Security Council seats are allocated by region, and candidates will require a two-thirds majority of votes from the 193 U.N. member states.

Turkey participates in the "Western European and Others Group," in which it competes with New Zealand and Spain. Two seats are allocated for the group, while one seat each is allotted for the African, Asia-Pacific, Eastern European, and Latin American and Caribbean groups.

The Security Council is comprised of 15 members, with five permanent members -- the U.S., the U.K., Russia, China and France -- having the right of veto.

Turkey served in the Security Council as a non-permanent member during 1951-1952 and 1954-1955 terms, and in 1961. Its recent membership came after an absence of almost 50 years, when it was elected to the Council for the 2009-2010 term by gathering151 votes in the first round of voting.

The new non-permanent members will replace Argentina, Australia, Luxembourg, South Korea and Rwanda. The others still serving are Chad, Chile, Jordan, Lithuania and Nigeria.

[10] Turkish EU Minister: Turkey could help to build an EU army

Bozk?r said that the EU had always only been able to hold "soft power" due to the lack of a single European army, which Turkey could have helped form if it had been made a member before, daily Milliyet reported. "EU is in a superpower position but it has been unable to build its army. The EU is always in the "soft power" stance because it cannot establish a European army consisting of 60,000 soldiers.

In addition, Turkish daily Sabah (16.10.14) reports that Bozkir will announce Turkey's EU communication strategy in Brussels.

Last month, Bozk?r announced that Turkey's New European Union Strategy ? the EU negotiation plan that aims to eliminate obstacles to EU membership by accelerating the dynamics of Turkey-EU relations, will be based on three pillars: the political reform process, socio-economic transformation in the accession process and EU communication strategy.

During a visit to Brussels, Bozk?r will have meetings with the outgo?ng EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner, Stefan Fule, the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok, the EU's new Turkey rapporteur, Dutch parliamentarian Kati Piri and other European officials. Bozk?r also will address the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and exchange views and comments with committee members.

[11] Kurdish newspaper deliveryman shot dead

Deliveryman Kadri Bagdu was shot twice on Tuesday morning in the city of Adana while distributing his newspapers. Bayrak said that Bagdu was killed by a group of ISIL supporters. TURKISH AFFAIRS SECTION
