[A] TURKISH CYPRIOT / TURKISH PRESS[01] Turkish torpedo boat and a corvette are watching the drilling activities in Cyprus' EEZTurkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (07.10.14) reports that the TCG Mizrak torpedo boat and the TCG Bafra corvette of the Turkish Naval Forces are closely watching SAIPEM 10000 vessel, which is holding drilling activities for oil and natural gas in the Republic of Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).According to a statement issued by the Turkish Armed Forces, SAIPEM 10000 platform, which is under the flag of Bahamas, is being followed by the Turkish warships that have been assigned with duties within the framework of the so-called Mediterranean Shield Operation. The statement describes as "so-called" the research for oil and natural gas and the drilling activities in the Republic of Cyprus' EEZ. (I/Ts.) [02] Eroglu: The Greek Cypriot side should take seriously Turkey's warnings on the hydrocarbon drilling activitiesTurkish Cypriot daily Diyalog (07.10.14) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu told the Greek Cypriot leadership to take seriously Turkey's warnings on the issue of hydrocarbon drilling and exploration activities. In statements to the paper, Eroglu said: "We have warned them since Christofias period, but they continue to proceed without listening to us" and added that the Turkish Cypriots' partnership right applies to all undersea resources as well. Noting that they made an agreement on the "border issue" of the so-called Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan, Eroglu said that within the framework of this agreement, the Barbaros ship was sent to Cyprus. Eroglu said: "They did not cease the drilling activities as a result of the unease caused by the Barbaros ship. Now, they launch a new activity and they think that Turkey in conjunction with the TRNC (translator's note: the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus) will remain silent on this issue. But, not really. This time the navy ships will be in Cyprus protecting the Turkish drilling ship. For this reason, it's no laughing matter; it's an advantage to know this." Claiming that he proposed a joint committee to the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades on the issue of natural resources during the negotiation process, Eroglu said that his proposal was rejected. Eroglu gave the following reply to Anastasiades, who said that the talks may be suspended in case Turkish ships would be sent at the drilling area: "We support the continuation of the negotiations. However, if you give an end to this, we don't have objections. The continuation of the attempt to unilaterally exploit the undersea resources while the negotiations are going on is not a well-intentioned approach. As we always say, if you take a step, we will also take a step. Now they take their second step and we will also take a step. It is a mistake to think that Turkey and we will remain silent." [03] Turkish Cypriot daily criticizes Nami's statements as regards bringing the Barbaros and a drilling platform to Cyprus' EEZTurkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (07.10.14) criticizes the statements made yesterday by Ozdil Nami, self-styled foreign minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, who said that they have determined a common stance with Turkey as regards the beginning of new drilling activities in parcel 9 of Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and noted that their common stance is first to send the Barbaros research vessel to the area and then, according to the results, to deploy a drilling platform there [See: Turkish Cypriot and Turkish Media bulletin 04-06/10/2014, Item 1].Commenting on the issue, daily "Afrika'dan Mektup" [Letter from Afrika] column reports, inter alia, the following: "Why we were angry with Tahsin Ertugruloglu or Huseyin Ozgurgun, who had been at the duty of foreign minister before? Is it because they are National Unity Party (UBP) members? What is Republican Turkish Party (CTP) member Nami's difference from them? Say it if he has any. If Ertugruloglu or Ozgurgun were in Nami's place, would they say different things? [?] Actually, it is difficult to understand why a UBP's copy was needed, while UBP itself exists. This is not [happening] only in the foreign affairs ministry, but in every action of the government. They are doing everything which the UBP has been doing. Whoever sits at these posts becomes UBP. There was no reaction yet from the opposition to these hawkish statements made by Ozdil Nami. No one came to ask him 'what are you saying?' No one asks: 'It is as if occupying this country for 40 years was not enough and now you have set eye on our seas?'! The wealth in these seas belongs to us, not to Turkey. What does Nami think? Does he think that if Barbaros finds something here, it will give it to us? Will those, who have swept away everything we had, donate this to us? Do those in Ankara have such designs? [?]". (I/Ts.) [05] The occupation regime implements strict control measures at crossing points in order to prevent Turkish Cypriot citizens from crossing to the free areas of the Republic of CyprusTurkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (07.10.14) reports on the discomfort which was created yesterday in Agios Dometios barricade since a lot of Turkish Cypriots who wanted to cross into the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus on the occasion of the Kurban Bayram Feast, had to wait for hours in the crossing point.According to the paper, the discomfort was created due to the policy followed by the so-called police officials at the crossing point, because of the strict control measures they followed. The paper underlines that the "TRNC officials" wanted to check the car and the passengers inside the car in order to make the necessary procedures. As a result of this implementation writes the paper, a queue was created, causing regret to a lot of Turkish Cypriots who wanted to pass their day in the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus. Citing reliable sources, the paper writes that approximately three thousand Turkish Cypriots have crossed into the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus since yesterday. In statements to the paper, several Turkish Cypriot citizens said that the aim of the "TRNC officials" with this new practice is to harass them in order to prevent them from crossing into the "south" and thus to force them to stay in the "TRNC" in order to spend their money there. (AK) [06] Bulut Constructions continues to deceive persons who bought property in the occupied area of CyprusTurkish Cypriot daily Kibrisli newspaper (07.10.14) reports that the persons, who bought property from the "Evviva Lavinium Site" constructed by Bulut Constructions Ltd in occupied Kato Dikomo village, stated that they have not received their "title deeds" yet.The paper writes that the "owners" paid an enormous amount of money for the "properties" and they want to stop being victims of this situation and accused the company that did not keep its promises towards them. [07] Davutoglu to CNN: "Turkey will be ready to send troops to Syria if other allies do their part against Assad regime and ISIL"Turkish daily Sabah (06.10.14) reported that Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has made remarking statements during his first foreign interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Monday in Istanbul.Davutoglu said that Turkey would be willing to send its troops to Syrian grounds if the other allies do their part against the Assad regime and the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). "We are ready to do everything if there is a clear strategy that after ISIS, we can be sure that our border will be protected. We don't want the regime anymore on our border pushing people towards Turkey. We don't want other terrorist organizations to be active there," said Davutoglu. Upon any threat against Turkey's national security, Davutoglu has assured that all measures will be taken. "U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in Syria were necessary but are not enough to defeat ISIS," Davutoglu said. "If ISIS goes, another radical organization may come in, thus our approach should be comprehensive and inclusive strategy not just to punish one terrorist organization but to eliminate all terrorist threats in the future as well as eliminate all brutal crimes against humanity committed by the regime," Davutoglu added. Davutoglu asserted that Turkey will do everything possible to help people in Kobani, as they are considered as their "brothers and sisters". He also said that Turkey has warned the American and European colleagues on the rise of radicalism in Syria, as a result of crimes against humanity by the Syrian regime. (?)
