[01] Ozersay: Chances are higher for a result in this negotiating process; The statements made by President Anastasiades on the joint declaration are not right

Arguing that this negotiating process is a new one, Ozersay said that "this is a negotiating process in which higher chances for having a result exist comparing to the past".

Ozersay noted that they want this to be a process in which the sides will be focused on producing a result by carrying out a give and take and added that they do not find it right to hold debates on the text of the joint declaration. Ozersay claimed: "We do not find the statements made by the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades on the joint text to be right. If we want to reach a solution, leadership must be exhibited. Making manoeuvres in order to satisfy the political parties will harm the process. If an agreement has been achieved on the text, the statement of the one side does not bind the other. As Turkish Cypriot side we said that we accepted the text and we have to look forward".

Asked on the contribution of the international players in the process, Ozersay replied that in spite of the fact that "the sensitivities on the arbitration issue have been included in the text of the joint declaration", the Greek Cypriot side opposes to mediation.

Referring to the issue of the occupied closed city of Varosha, Ozersay argued: "The Greek Cypriot side may see Varosha as a confidence building measure. What is important is for you to evaluate in the same manner what your interlocutor sees. He may see everything which is a part of the comprehensive solution as a confidence building measure at the same time. He must convince the Turkish Cypriot side as well. We should discuss what the Turkish Cypriot side will do in case this comes to the table, after it comes to the table".

Referring to the meeting he will have today with the negotiator of the Greek Cypriot side, Andreas Mavroyiannis, Ozersay said that they will discuss the time table and the program of the negotiations and after the meeting "it will be possible to clarify the date of the visits to Athens and Ankara".

Referring to the issue of the participation of self-styled foreign minister Ozdil Nami in the Turkish Cypriot negotiating team, Ozersay said that "there is a certain contribution" that everybody can make and added Eroglu "has given the necessary response" on this issue.

[02] More reactions to the joint declaration; Erhuman: This text clearly ends the debates for confederation and two separate states

Referring to the text of the joint declaration, Tufan Erhuman, self-styled deputy with the Republican Turkish Party – United Forces (CTP-BG), said that this text is in accordance to the UN Security Council Resolutions, which are the basic parameters of the negotiations and added that the text has clearly put away the debates for confederation and two separate states. Erhuman noted that they should support the Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu from now on as this would be tantamount to supporting the federation.

"This text is a basis since 1999", he said adding that the text includes verbatim the UN Security Council's Resolution number 1251. Erhuman described as "unjust" the criticism against the "single sovereignty" expression and pointed out that the concept of single sovereignty is included in the UN Security Council Resolutions since 1999. He said that the UN Security Council Resolutions are the basis of the negotiations and recalled that the 25 July 2008 agreement between the then President Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot leader Talat refers to holding separate and simultaneous referenda.

In his address, Zorlu Tore, self-styled deputy with the Democratic Party – National Forces (DP-UG) said that the Greek Cypriots want a large area of land and argued that it is not possible for the Turkish Cypriots to accept this. Tore claimed that those who in the past had been saying "Yankee go home", now are saying "come, come". He alleged that what is wanted now is to lead the two "peoples" in Cyprus to fight with each other and not to establish peace. He claimed that in case territory is returned to the Greek Cypriot side, a problem will be created.

"Guzelyurt cannot become Morfou, Gemikonagi cannot become Xeros", alleged Tore [referring to occupied Morfou and Xeros areas which the Turks renamed to "Guzelyurt" and "Gemikonagi" respectively within the framework of their effort to turkify the occupied area of Cyprus].

Tore said he does not believe that a "new state" will be established and alleged that the sovereign rights of the Turkish Cypriots should be recognized.

In her speech, Fazilet Ozdefne, "MP" with the CTP-BG said that with the joint declaration many things have been clarified. Referring to the point they regard to be important, Ozdefne noted that the single sovereignty will derive from the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots and added that since Eroglu has accepted this, there is no need for debating on the issue in public. She pointed out that the residual powers will belong to the constituent states and added that there is nothing abstract and indefinite on this issue as well. She noted that the text cannot be "deemphasized" by saying that it includes abstract expressions [as Eroglu has stated].

[03] Siber to visit Iran; She will participate in a meeting of OIC

As the paper writes, Siber is expected to travel to Iran on Sunday, February 16 and will be accompanied by two different delegations. The first delegation is composed by Izlem Gurcag, so-called deputy with UBP in occupied Keryneia, Huseyin Ercal, "deputy" with CTP-BG in occupied Morfou, and Fikri Ataoglu, "deputy" with DP-UG in occupied Famagusta. The second delegation is composed by herself and Ahmet Muratoglu, chief of "parliamentary office".

Siber will deliver a speech at the meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC and will also carry out several contacts.

Siber and the delegations will return back to the occupied area of Cyprus on Thursday, February 20.

[04] Cavusoglu stated that Cyprus is not the only obstacle for Turkey's EU bid

Cavusogly who made exclusive statements to the paper, said that Turkey wants a solution for Cyprus in order for permanent peace to take place in Eastern Mediterranean, not only for Turkey's EU obstacles to be lifted.

According to the paper, these days that the negotiations are launching again, the "foreign ministry" is thanking Downer for his services, adding that Downer served from his post with patience, objectiveness and great energy.

According to the paper, real estate agents express the view that the reduction of the "title deeds fees" and the increase of the number of apartments and houses that foreigners can buy in the occupied area of Cyprus up to 3, will contribute positively to the "economy" of the breakaway regime.

In statements on the issue, the chairman of the "Real Estate agents union", Hasan Sungur said that the decisions taken will be an advantage and will revive the "economy".

[08] Article in Turkish daily argues that there is the "Erdogan factor" as regards the solution of the Cyprus problem

"If there is any agreement on -- let's not say failures, but rather complete non-advancement – in Turkey's foreign policy, it is on the failures in these three areas. And if it was not clear before to the designers of the rather worn-out policies, it should be now. In all three, perhaps to a lesser degree with Cyprus, we can see the fingerprints of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, writes Baydar and goes on as follows:

"New rounds of Cyprus talks, deliver a slightly stronger ray of hope. As Hugh Pope, the Turkey/Cyprus Project Director for International Crisis Group, puts it, "There are a few new elements: a surprising American role, an open-minded Greek Cypriot leader, possible direct Turkey-Greek Cypriot contacts -- but no miracle leap yet expected in the Sisyphean search for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federal settlement." The new American role will be key. But also, as the analyst Liona Mullen emphasizes, this time there are more carrots than sticks -- oil and gas for both (and for Israel). A deal could be "Varosha for gas" or Cyprus unblocking chapters, easing Turkey's path towards EU membership. (Furthermore, the political and social mood in Greek Cyprus is less negative than previously, with more awareness of possible solutions.)

The most unpredictable player in the triangle seems to be Erdogan. Much depends on whether he will go on being a part of the problem, or become part of the solution."

The talks with the Qatari Emir will focus on bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the statement.
