[01] The Turkish side prepares a new road map on the Cyprus problem

In statements during the meeting, Eroglu said that the negotiations continued at a technical committee level and added that they were evaluating the elections campaign, which started in the government-controlled area of Cyprus, and the established coalitions. Noting that soon UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus, Alexander Downer would come again to the island, Eroglu said that they were interested in finding out what Downer's bag would be including.

Eroglu noted that they had evaluated the developments among themselves and now they were considering the steps they would take with the delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He added:

"In any case, we will be the ones who will benefit the most by these evaluations which we will be making. Taking the views of Motherland Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs while drawing this road map, as we always do, is very important for us. We are meeting today to fulfil this important duty".

Ambassador Eguz said he was happy to meet with Eroglu and added: "We want to take your views, your evaluations regarding the period which will follow. This is the main aim of our visit".

Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan newspaper (13.09.12) refers to the issue under the title "Preparations for a new road map started".

[02] Tatar alleges that all occupied properties belong to the breakaway regime

According to the paper, Tatar said yesterday: "The discrimination in the title deed office in the TRNC [Translator's note: the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus] should be lifted. There should not be descriptions such as properties of equivalent value or Turkish properties. All properties are in the TRNC's title deeds office. The developments in the Property Compensation Commission are in this direction and are important for us. The problem of the 90-95% of those who apply to the Property Compensation Commission is solved with money and even a sentimental bond has not remained anymore between the former property owners and their properties in the north".

Kibris argues that Tatar's initiative would "raise the Greek Cypriots up".

The paper's editor-in-chief, Resat Akar argues that the guarantor of the properties is the "TRNC", but the people do not have much trust in the promises and the documents of this "state". He noted that the steps taken by Turkey are important for feeling trust.

Akar writes, inter alia, the following: "In case Ziraat Bankasi accepts the properties of equivalent value as mortgage, could this be accepted as Turkey's 'guarantee'? Yes, to a great extend, because mortgaging a property of equivalent value is not only an economic decision, it is at the same time a political decision. If Turkey shoulders the political risks, overcoming the economic problems will not be difficult at all ?

The views put forward yesterday by Finance Minister, Ersin Tatar are as important as securing a change of the economic balances in Cyprus. The TRNC economy will really get out of difficulties, in case the "'properties of equivalent value" are accepted as mortgage and a lot of money from Turkey flows into the market as loan?

Ziraat Bankasi accepting the properties of equivalent value as mortgage and giving loans to TRNC citizens is as important as the five billion US dollar loan which south Cyprus is expecting from China or Russia?"

[03] So-called prime minister Kucuk reiterated that occupied Morfou will not be returned to the Greek Cypriots as part of the comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem

Speaking at a dinner reception he hosted in occupied Morfou last night, Kucuk said that they had taken a sacred vow to strength the UBP and to bring the people together.He said that they would continue to work to achieve those principles.

Reminding that the "boundaries" of the "TRNC" had been drawn with the "1974 Turkish peace operation", as he called the Turkish invasion in Cyprus, Kucuk said that occupied Morfou will never be given away as part of a settlement to the Cyprus Problem.

Stating that the relationship between the Turkish Cypriot "people" and Turkey were not based on gains and interest, he said that this relationship was based on brotherhood, strength, respect and love.

[04] Turkmen: Politicians also want two sovereign states in Cyprus

Turkmen was addressing the opening ceremony of his organization's youth centre. The paper writes that the building was used as warehouse of arms, equipment, and ammunition in the past.

Turkmen said he was experiencing one of the happiest days of his life and added that the centre will be open for all Turks living in the occupied area of Cyprus.

[05] A delegation headed by a member of the so-called assembly due to Bulgaria for contacts

According to information released by the "press information office" of the "TRNC parliament", the delegation headed by CTP Deputy Arif Albayrak is made up of artists Mustafa Hasturk, Salih Cizel and Feridun Is?man.

The delegation will be visiting an art exhibition in Sofia and Momchilgrad.

The group is expected to return to the occupied area of Cyprus on the 15th of September.

[06] Syrian opposition was reportedly the destination of the bombs that exploded in Afyonkarahisar

Ciray wrote, inter alia, the following on his Tweeter account: "According to information I have acquired from a very important and safe source regarding the explosion in Afyon, they were secretly sending to Syrian dissidents the 1936-37 American type hand grenades possessed by the Turkish Armed Forces. They say the reason for which the counting was conducted at night and the soldiers had been chosen to be recruits, was to serve the aim of this dispatching being kept secret?I will ask the National Defense Minister about this with a motion".

[07] Kucuk has reportedly launched a purge operation against supporters of Eroglu

The "administrative council" of illegal Bayrak convened yesterday and accused Kanli of using the "organization" in politics and of working as "activist" for UBP's congress. The "administrative council" submitted a proposal to the "cabinet" for relieving Kanli of his duties. The decision was taken by majority.

According to the paper, the "cabinet" convened yesterday, but could take no decision on this issue. The spokesperson of the "cabinet", Nazim Cavusoglu said that they could not discuss Kanli's matter because of their heavy agenda.

[08] Turkish travel agents prepare tour packages for AEL-Fenerbahce football game

The game coincides with the first day of the Muslim Feast of Sacrifices, writes the paper, adding that this is why three-day packages are offered, so that after the game, the Turkish tourists will have the opportunity to visit the historic places in the government-controlled area of the island.

Officials of Ani Tour, one of the agencies which organize such tours, stated that the demand is very high from the very first day they published their packages.

[09] Davutoglu discussed the Syria issue with Lavrov

Davutoglu told reporters that he discussed with Lavrov the Syria crisis, saying that despite Turkey and Russia had differences on the issue, they shared the common view that Syria's territorial integrity should be protected and the country's stability should be restored.

Responding to a question over the release of a Turkish national who had been kidnapped by a powerful tribe in Lebanon, Davutoglu said that he spoke on the phone with Lebanon's Prime Minister and requested the Turkish citizen's safe passage to Turkey. "I thank the Lebanese government, Prime Minister, Interior Minister and intelligence authorities," Davutoglu said.

[10] Iraq freezes licenses of Turkish businesses in Iraq

"The licenses have been put aside until further notice while "inspections are conducted and arrangements [made]," the ministry said in a written statement.

It was not immediately clear whether the decision would affect Turkish companies doing business in the north of Iraq, controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Turkish companies are particularly active in Northern Iraq, which has become a significant trade partner with Turkey.

The decision came as Iraq's fugitive Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who is currently residing in Turkey, defied the verdict of an Iraqi court that sentenced him to death in absentia, on charges that he had run death squads in Iraq, and ruled out returning home until he is guaranteed "security and a fair trial."

The Turkish government has refused to extradite al-Hashemi, increasing the political tension between the two countries. TURKISH AFFAIRS SECTION
