[01] Eroglu reiterated his known position regarding the non-solution of the Cyprus problem

Eroglu who made these statements during a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chamber (KTEZO), stated that everybody wants a permanent solution to the Cyprus problem. "But what is important is the other side to accept our rights and a mutual give and take to begin," he claimed and alleged that he took a step for an agreement that could lead to a common state but President Christofias was not able to follow.

He went on and claimed that there are two separate states at the negotiation table trying to find a solution, however, only the Turkish Cypriot side is committed to this. He also alleged that even if the Turkish Cypriot side is not recognized as a state, it has always been the sincere side at the negotiation table.

Eroglu also said that everything should not be connected and related to the Cyprus problem and that all must do everything possible so that better days will come.

In addition in other statements at the "2012 Olympic Prices" ceremony which was organized by the self-styled national olympic committee, Eroglu said that there is a lack of agreement at the island and claimed that the reasons for this are the decisions taken by the UN Security Council and the fact that the Republic of Cyprus, "a divided island", as he described it, has become an EU member and is acting now as EU president.

[02] The crisis at occupied Lefkosia municipality continues

Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan newspaper (06.07.12) covers the issue in its front page and writes that the "district governor of occupied Lefkosia", Deniz Dana went yesterday to the "municipality" of occupied Lefkosia and held a meeting with the worker's trade union (BES).

According to the paper, Dana called on the worker's at the municipality and their trade union (BES) to cooperate in order to find solution to their problems.

Dana said that his main goal is to end the actions of the workers, the workers to return back to their duties, get their salaries and to start the collection of the taxes.

On the other hand, the worker's trade union BES, stated after the meeting with Dana, that they will not return back to their duties unless their salaries will be paid first, and the 123 persons who were forced to resign, to come back to their works.

Meanwhile, reaction statements on the issue continued yesterday in the breakaway regime.

Commenting on the issue, all Turkish Cypriot political parties described the decision of the so-called council of ministers as illegal, anti-democratic and contrary to the "constitution".

The Republican Turkish party (CTP) commenting on the decision, described it as a blow for the "democracy of the country" and stated that it will send the decision to the "constitutional court".

Also, Mehmet Cakici, chairman of the Social Democracy Party (TDP) stated that the "council of ministers" has committed a coup against the "legal orders". Cakici called all the opposition parties to undertake a joint action. He also called for an extraordinary meeting of the "assembly" in order to amend the "law" which is related to the "municipality".

Serdar Denktas, chairman of the Democratic Party characterized in his turn the decision as anti-democratic and contrary to the constitution.

Izzet Izcan, chairman of the United Cyprus Party (BKP) said that it was an anti-democratic decision and added that what the "council of ministers" should do, is not to force the "members of the municipal council" and Cemal Bulutoglulari to obligatory permission,0 but to transfer the issue to the justice.

Reactions have been expressed also by several members of Turkish Cypriot trade unions which all condemned the decision taken.

On the contrary, speaking on behalf of the "government", the so-called prime minister, Irsen Kucuk said that the decision taken is completely right, legal and reasonable and reminded of the fact that the "government" decided to interfere to the "municipality" since the members of the "municipal council" did not proceed to any decision making neither they gathered for a meeting for 6 months. Kucuk added that the intention of the "government" was to restore the "democracy".

Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen (06.07.12) reports on the issue in its front page, under the title: "Deputy attorney general: We did not submit our views". The paper publishes statements by Ersoy Olcter, "deputy attorney general" who denied allegations by the so-called interior minister, that the "government", took the opinion of the "attorney general" first, before taking this decision. Olcter added that they never received a written demand by the "government" on the issue and said that this decision was taken completely by the "government".

Also, issuing a written statement on the issue, the so-called mayor of occupied Lefkosia, Cemal Bulutoglulari, condemned the decision by the "council of ministers" and said that it is completely an anti-constitutional decision. He described the 4th of July as a black day for the democracy of the "country" and said that he will apply to the "constitutional court". He also reiterated that he will not resign and asked for appointments with all political parties in order to evaluate the situation.

[03] Haberdar reports that 12 Turkish Cypriots participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Cypriot EU term presidency

The paper writes that 12 Turkish Cypriots attended the ceremony to which totally 500 persons had been invited. According to Haberdar, Okan Dagli, Mehmet Faiz, Ali Gulle and Engin Guntac were among these 12 Turkish Cypriots.

[04] Bavarian red cross organization to offer an ambulance to the occupation regime

According to the paper, the ambulance is a gift offered after an initiative taken by the "TRNC culture attache at northern Bavaria", Dr Turgay Hilmi. The ambulance will be given in a special ceremony to be organized on July 9 at the self-styled ministry of health.

The paper also writes that Helmbrecht, Schurgers and Hilmi will stay in the breakaway regime for three days and they will put effort so that the cultural relations between Nuremberg and the occupation regime to be improved.

[05] Kutlu Adali to be commemorated today in occupied Cyprus

The paper writes that Yeni Duzen paper and the Kutlu Adali Foundation will organize today a commemoration ceremony in front of Adali's grave in occupied Lefkosia.

[06] Turkey's membership would assist European Union to adapt to new global dynamics better, says FM Davutoglu

Delivering a speech on Turkish-French relations at the Paris-based French Foreign Policy Institute, Davutoglu said that Turkey's membership would make crucial contributions to the EU.

I am optimistic about the future of Turkish-French relations. We want to start a new term in bilateral relations by developing a new vision, Davutoglu stressed.

The development of Turkish-French relations with a new vision would make crucial contributions to the future of the EU, Davutoglu noted.

Pointing out to Turkey's high level talks with the United States and Russia, Davutoglu underlined that Turkey wanted to enter a phase of interactive relations with France.

Turkey and France could increase cooperation in many international fields. Certain crisis experienced recently has created an image that the two countries were rivals, Davutoglu stated.

We do not want a new crisis with France. We want to approach relations with a new vision, Davutoglu said.

Touching on the countries that went through the Arab Spring, Davutoglu said that the EU had to support the movements for democracy in these countries.

Ahmet Davutoglu will attend the meeting of "Friends of Syrian People" in France on Friday.

[07] Turkey's top Muslim cleric meets with Ecumenical Patriarch

"As the Religious Affairs Directorate, we consider non-Muslim citizens living in Turkey as an essential constituent of our country. And we believe that they have the right to educate their own children in line with their faith and train their own religious functionaries. We think that they should have the same rights which we want for ourselves in freedom of religion and faith, and freedom of education," Gormez told reporters after the meeting.

Gormez also said non-Muslim communities in Turkey should not be left in a position to seek help from other countries to educate their religious functionaries in an apparent reference to a debate over the reopening of the Greek Orthodox Halki Seminary in Istanbul.

The seminary which once educated priests for Turkey's Greek Orthodox community was closed in 1971. "Of course [the seminary] should maintain its existence within framework of laws and regulations as it did in the past," Gormez said. TURKISH AFFAIRS SECTION
