Statements by Cemal Bulutoglulari praising Egemen Bagis for contributing to the positive change of the foreign ambassadors' attitude towards the so-called Turkish municipality of Lefkosia, the participation of the breakaway regime in a conference of the Organization for the Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, the promotion of the breakaway regime in WTM tourism fair in London, and other internal matters are the main topics covered by the nine out of thirteen Turkish Cypriot newspapers which were published today. The press refers also to statements by Ersin Tatar on the economy of the breakaway regime and the continuation tomorrow, of the protests by the "opposition" parties and other organizations regarding the new "draft-laws", which the "government" attempts to pass from the "assembly".

The majority of today's Turkish dailies cover news stories regarding another earthquake in Van (5.5 on the Richter scale), a visit by Prime Minister Erdogan in the town of Rize, news reports that PKK trains 14-year-old children for armed operations, and reports that the Syrian President will try to use the PKK against Turkey. Also covered, are off the record, comments by the French President regarding the Israeli Prime Minister after a press conference with Barak Obama, the decision of the Italian Prime Minister to step down, Turkey obtaining the source code for F-16 military aircrafts with the permission of the USA, and other internal issues.

[01] Bulutoglulari: Bagis' contacts in Europe resulted in a "positive change" of foreign ambassadors' stance towards the Turks

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris (09.11.11) reports that Cemal Bulutoglulari, "mayor" of the occupied part of Lefkosia, has stated that thanks to the contacts of the Turkish EU Minister Egemen Bagis in Europe, the stance of the foreign ambassadors to Lefkosia towards the Turks has positively changed.

"I believe that the efforts of Mr Egemen in Europe are very successful, because every ambassador who comes to us mentions the name of Mr Egemen. It means that great efforts are made somewhere. We the Turks have started gathering the fruits of these efforts", said Bulutoglulari yesterday in statements to Turkish Anatolia news agency.

Bulutoglulari argued that the Turkish municipality of occupied Lefkosia which was established in 1958 is the only internationally recognized institution of the "TRNC", as he described breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, which is politically recognized only by Turkey.

Referring to the Cyprus problem, Bulutoglulari alleged that the Turkish side has always been extending a hand of peace to the Greek Cypriots and when the latter take this hand, a solution will be found in Cyprus. He claimed that a problem which the Turkish Cypriots and Turkey want to solve lasts for 40-50 years and reiterated the Turkish allegation that they could not wait for another 50 years for the solution.

Bulutoglulari said that as a result of the efforts of Egemen Bagis in Europe, "great changes have been made" in the ambassadors who visit him and added: "That is, the Turkish positions, the reality, our share of the justice have started to come to surface and the ambassadors started to refer to these. The ambassadors who came to me in the past have been saying that 'behold, there is a republic, join this republic and proceed together', but believe me that there is a change during the last period. Their point of view towards us has changed very much. I believe that the efforts exerted by Mr Egemen in Europe have been very successful, because every ambassador who comes mentions Mr Egemen's name. This means that somewhere great efforts are made. We the Turks have started gathering the fruits of these efforts".

[02] Sener Levent argues that the image policy followed by the Turkish side is not useful anymore

Writing in Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika (09.11.11), Sener Levent, columnist and editor in chief of the paper, in his commentary entitled: "The image of the side which is in favour of the solution is not useful anymore", points out that although the situation in Cyprus has changed, together with the situation in the Middle East which has also changed, the Turkish side has not changed at all, since it exerts efforts to prove to the world that it is the side which is in favour of the solution in Cyprus. Levent underlines that it is the first time since 1974 that the Greek Cypriot side is not afraid of Turkey since it has Israel by its side. He argues that Ankara could not evaluate correctly the new situation in the region, because it did not take into consideration that Israel acts always with the support of the USA.

Levent notes that the Turkish side follows an image policy and tries to present the Greek Cypriot side as the side which is responsible for the non-solution in Cyprus. Levent writes also that Ankara is exerting efforts so that the UN to announce that the Greek Cypriot side is responsible for the non-solution in Cyprus.

Supporting that Ankara is preparing to keep the Turkish Cypriots as hostages, like it did in 2004 when it put them in the freezer, Levent writes that there are even proposals for the annexation of the occupied north part of Cyprus to Turkey.

Levent writes also that the statements made by Ankara, Eroglu and Ozersay, as regards the New York summit, do not reflect the reality.
