[04] Statements by Adam Ereli on trade with the occupied areas

Illegal Bayrak television (28/02/06) broadcast the following: The United States has announced it already has trade links with the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'.

The announcement comes only days after the State Department announced it considers trade with North Cyprus to be free, and that theres no standing ban on trade with the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'.

The State Department spokesman Adam Erelis latest remarks came in response to a question by a Greek reporter who asked, how the United States could insist that having trade links with what he termed - a territory under illegal occupation is absolutely within the limits of international law.

Mr Ereli responded to the Greek journalists question in a clear but a stronger manner, underlining the fact that theres no standing ban or limitation to international trade with North Cyprus whatsoever. He went further to challenge the Greek journalist and even invites him to let him know if he finds any existing regulation or law that bans trade with North Cyprus.

The Greek journalist continued by asking the State Department spokesman if, quote, the Administration has informed the Congress about what he termed this change of policy, unquote.

Mr Erelis reply, this time, was even sharper: Theres not even a single standing regulation or law that bans or prohibits sending goods to North Cyprus. The State Department spokesman on Friday, for the first time, officially expressed the view that trading with North Cyprus is not illegal.

(Tr.Note: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a subservient to Ankara regime set up by the Turkish Republic in the territories of Cyprus occupied by 40,000 Turkish troops since the Turkish invasion of 1974, as a result of which1% of the Greek Cypriot population were murdered, 200,000 Greek Cypriots were forced at gun point to abandon their homes and properties and hundreds of churches were turned into sheep stables, dung storages, bars and restaurants).

[06] The subservient regimes self-styled Foreign Ministry expected integration with the rest of the world and not EU money

Illegal Bayrak television (28/02/06) broadcast the following: The 'Ministry of Foreign Affairs' has accused the European Union of making a step backward by separating the two regulations on North Cyprus.

A statement issued today reminded that the Turkish Cypriot sides priority was to achieve integration with the rest of the international community through the proposed free trade regulation prepared earlier by the Union to help ease the effects of Turkish Cypriots international isolation.

It was not financial aid or funds that the Turkish Cypriot side had expected the statement said, and added that the EU Councils approval of the separation of the two regulations was an act far from being capable of contributing to the efforts aimed at achieving a settlement to the Cyprus problem.

As for the envisaged financial contributions to the Turkish Cypriot side, the 'TRNC Foreign Ministry' statement pointed to the fact that Turkeys financial assistance to North Cyprus is several times more than the amount said to have been released by the EUs decision yesterday.

Kemal Deniz made this statement when he visited the occupied Komi Kepir and Rizokarpaso villages. Komi Kepir is chosen as pilot village for village tourism.

Kemal Deniz further said that the yearly trade deficit of the occupied area is about one billion USD and this deficit is balanced through incomes (350 thousand USD) from tourism and the rest with the money received from the university students and the Turkish Cypriots working in the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

The members of the group today visited the 'Greek Cypriot' Minister of Interior Andreas Christou to convey a written request for Turkish Cypriots to be entitled to vote and contest elections in 'South Cyprus', scheduled for May,21st this year.

Ali Erel, the groups leader, said later that the 'Greek Cypriot' Minister of Interior had given neither a positive, nor a negative reply to the demand.

The group also called upon NGOs and political parties to claim their communal rights based on the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus.

Referring to a recently adopted law in 'South Cyprus', the group said the new legislation constitutes a violation of the 1960 Republic of Cyprus Constitution, abolishing Turkish Cypriots right to elect and be elected in separate lists, which is a provision in the said Constitution.
