[01] Rauf Denktas to assign Dervis Eroglu to form a new pseudogovernment after Talatīs resignation. Eroglu says he will contact the DP, for forming a new coalition

"I can assign National Unity Party (NUP) to form the new `governmentī if it can reach to required 26 seats," said Mr Denktas.

Upon questions of reporters, Mr Denktas said that today or tomorrow he will meet Dervis Eroglu, leader of NUP which has the highest number of deputies at "Parliament".

Denktas said that the resigned "government" can remain in office until a new "government" is formed.

In addition Mr Dervis Eroglu, chairman of the National Unity Party (NUP) has said that if he is assigned the task of setting up a new "government", he will first ask Democratic Party [DP] Chairman Serdar Denktas, his former "coalition partner", to take part in the new "coalition".

In a statement to illegal Bayrak Radio and Television (BRT), Eroglu said: "Automatically, the budget of the "government" that has resigned becomes invalid." He added that it is impossible to accept Serdar Denktas' call to the political parties to approve the 2004 draft budget at the Assembly.

Eroglu pointed out that the new "government" may be able to have the "budget" approved, adding: "I think it is wrong to debate the nonexistent "budget" of the nonexistent "government" and then shelve it."

The NUP leader said that if he is assigned the task of forming a new "government", he will approach all the parties. Contrary to what the other parties say, he stressed, we are equidistant to all of them. He said: "Some are stuck to the idea of 65 percent and are trying to change the agenda by remarks that can be considered threats; they signal that they will assume an antidemocratic stand. I think that is wrong."

Asked if he will use up all of the 15 days granted to a political party to set up a "government", Eroglu said that it will be clear within a week if a new "government" is going to be set up.

[02] The "budget" debate was withdrawn after the resignation of the pseudogovernment

The pseudo assembly convened under "assembly speaker" Mrs Fatma Ekenoglu yesterday morning. At the beginning of the session, Mr Talat's motion to withdraw the "draft bill" from the "assembly" was submitted to a "vote" and accepted unanimously.

The second motion submitted to a "vote" was for the so-called assembly consultative council to suspend the "assembly" work until 4 November. This motion was also adopted unanimously and the "assembly" session ended.

The opposition so-called deputies were in close dialogue with Mr Mehmet Ali Talat. The National Unity Party leader Dervis Eroglu, in turn, was seen to have a sincere conversation with Mr Talat.

[03] Two US officials are inspecting the illegal Tymbou Airport in the occupied by 40,000 Turkish troops part of Cyprus

The two officials, who conducted their inspection accompanied by Mr Mahmut Nihat, director of the so-called Civil Aviation Department of the occupation regime, abstained from making any comments to the Press.

Mr Nihat said that the inspection was conducted in a bid to determine whether the airport is safe for flights. Explaining that the inspection will continue for two days, Mr Nihat added that the officials will also make assessments on air and ground traffic. He pointed out that he knew nothing about what would happen after the inspection.

The paper writes that an official from the US embassy in Nicosia was present at the inspection as well. According to a statement of the spokesman of the embassy, the US government has made steps aiming at supporting the "recommendations of the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan", in order to facilitate the overall solution of the Cyprus problem, in parallel to the stance of the European Union, by putting an end to the "isolation" of the Turkish Cypriots.

The statement notes that the US officials visited the illegal airport in the occupied areas of Cyprus in order to develop their knowledge on the issue of its security and with the aim of studying the obstacles for establishing the communication by air planned to begin between the occupied part of Cyprus and the USA and other destinations.
