[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Statements by Talat on opening a new crossing point in the occupied Zodeia area and the issue of the missing personsTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (12.08.04) reports that Mehmet Ali Talat, so-called prime minister of the occupation regime, said yesterday that ball on the issue of opening a crossing point in the occupied area of Zodeia is now in the UN Court.Responding to questions before a meeting of his "council of ministers", Mr Talat noted the following on the issue: "All the routes have been drawn, an agreement has been reached, but we have not yet received an answer from the United Nations. The only problem is the UN to consult with the Greek Cypriot side and put the issue into effect. There is a road to be built in our side and we are ready to build it. We shall begin when the UN gives its approval. The Greek Cypriots must build the other part of the road. We have changed the route of the road for safety reasons, because this road was passing through a mine field. There is also the issue of expropriation in the buffer zone. The UN will be organizing these things". Furthermore, after the meeting of the "council of ministers", Mr Talat confirmed that he has received a letter from the UN Secretary - General on the issue of the missing persons. Noting that the letter has been sent to President Papadopoulos as well, Mr Talat said that the UN Secretary - General asked the efforts on the issue of the missing persons to continue. Responding to questions, Mr Talat argued that the Turkish Cypriot side was exerting some efforts on the issue and that it was determined to continue these efforts. He also alleged that their so-called ministry of foreign affairs was making some new arrangements on the issue. [02] Denktas tries to instigate and revive communal antagonism; call for struggleLocal Turkish Cypriot daily CUMHURIYET newspaper (12/08/04) reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas called on the Turkish Cypriot organizations to wake up from their deep sleep and start struggle.Denktas had a meeting yesterday with the so-called "First Secretary" of the Turkish Envoy in the occupied area Hakan Akbulut. Speaking to reporters infront of the Turkish official Denktas said: "We have to raise our voice. Every organization should be revived. The struggle did not end. The struggle starts and they want to start the struggle from the rights given to the Greek Cypriots by the Annan plan. The Annan plan is dead; it is not on the agenda any more. The Turkish Cypriots with the help of the referenda have proved to the world that they are one of the two peoples that has the right to self determination and that a single people has no right to determine the destiny of Cyprus. Where are the promises made by 'yes' mistake? See that these mean nothing. No one has the right to bargain our greatest right; our sovereignty and our state to be written off. Time and again I say and nobody openly with a strong voice come up and says that this condition will never be met and we will never give up these rights. They think that this will never happen and it is impossible to realize this. However, your silence could be misinterpreted by the world and hey consider that 'we accept' their conditions. For this reason we have to revive every organization. They should be standing on their own two feet and raise their voice. If we do not do these we will lose .I tell you."
