[01] Talat says Greek Cypriots to hold two 'peaceful' demonstrations

According to illegal Bayrak TV (07.08.04), the so-called Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat briefed the media organs on the demonstration be held by the Greek Cypriots on 11 August, Talat said that one of the organizers had informed him that it will be a peaceful action. He stressed that it will be a day-long action in front of the EU mission in Nicosia.

Talat asserted that a decision was made for a demonstration on 11 August because the closed sector of Varosha would have been transferred to the Greek Cypriots on that day if the Annan Plan was accepted. He noted: "The demonstration has been organized by those who criticized the no vote within their structure when the referendum was held."

Talat asserted that the action will be staged in front of the EU mission in Nicosia throughout the day and noted that only a few participants will travel to Dherinya to convey a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan through the UN officials there. Talat said that according to the information he has, the people must not be worried about the violation of the border or the need for measures to prevent such an action.

Recalling his statement some time ago that the Turkish Cypriot side should not be the target of the actions to be organized by the Greek Cypriot side, Talat said: "The target should be the Greek Cypriot administration and Tassos Papadopoulos because of the campaign they launched to prevent the reunion of the island and the return of the Greek Cypriots to Varosha".

Stressing that the Greek Cypriots have accused him of trying to encourage them to oust the Papadopoulos administration, Talat asserted: "What I said was this: `The Greek Cypriot administration should have been the target because it supported separation and prevented the solution of the problem, not the Turkish Cypriot side´. I have not changed my mind."

[02] Tuzmen: Turkish contractors abroad signed deals worth $3 billion in Jan-Jul 2004

According to Ankara Anatolia (08.08.04), ''the amount of projects which Turkish contractors have undertaken abroad in the first seven months of 2004 exceed 3 billion U.S. dollars,'' Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Sunday.

Tuzmen said that Turkish contracting companies acting abroad undertook 149 projects in the first seven months of this year.

Tuzmen said the total investments made in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Algeria, Morocco, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" ("TRNC"), Kuwait, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Oman and Jordan reached three billion U.S. dollars.

He said African countries recently became an important market for the Turkish contractors, stressing that they considered African countries as target countries this year.

Tuzmen said very positive developments were recorded for Turkish contractors particularly in South African countries, and noted that 35 percent of the projects undertaken by the Turkish contractor sector were in Middle East countries, 34 percent of it to European and Eastern Europe countries, 18 percent in Commonwealth of Independent States and 10 percent in African countries.

[03] Denktas has prevented the relatives of Turkish Cypriot missing persons from giving blood

Turkish Cypriot daily YENI DUZEN newspaper (09.08.04) reports that Mr Ibrahim Dervisogullari, from Alamino village, has said that the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas prevented his Turkish Cypriots co-villagers from giving blood, so that the identity of the people buried in a massive grave found in the above-mentioned village is established.

The paper writes that Dr Haglund, from the International Organization of Doctors for Human Rights, told YENI DUZEN reporter Sevgul Uludag, that the place of a mass grave at Alamino has been established, but the grave could not be opened and the remains of the dead Turkish Cypriots could not be returned to their relatives, because the later did not give blood.

According to Mr Dervisogullari, the relatives would have given blood to the team of Dr Haglund, in order to establish the identity of the persons buried in the above-mentioned grave, but Mr Denktas prevented them saying that a Turkish Cypriot team would take the blood of the Turkish Cypriot relatives. "Denktas, however, has not kept his promise", said Mr Dervisogullari.

[04] Talat alleges that real democracy and freedom in Cyprus exists in the occupied part of the island, ignoring that Turkey controls everything there

Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (08.08.04) reports that Mehmet Ali Talat, so-called prime minister of the occupation regime, has alleged that the real democracy and freedom in Cyprus exists in the occupied part of the island.

In statements during one of his meetings, Mr Talat supported that the Turkish Cypriots have managed to change their political, social and democratic structure with their struggles during the past few years.

Claiming that in the free areas of Cyprus Mr Alvaro de Soto and Mr Gunther Verheugen were banned from speaking on the state television, Mr Talat alleged that no one could even think that something like that could happen in the occupied part of Cyprus.

Mr Talat supported also that the Greek Cypriot merchants do not buy products from the Turkish Cypriot producers because they are afraid. In an effort to show that there is no democracy in the free areas of Cyprus, Mr Talat accused the Greek Cypriots of living in fear, concern, ultra-nationalism and chauvinism.

[05] Talat: "The Turkish Cypriot Airlines belong to us, but they are not ours, only in words they belong to the Turkish Cypriots"

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (07.08.04) reports that Mehmet Ali Talat, so-called prime minister of the occupation regime, has said that the illegal Turkish Cypriot Airlines do not belong to the Turkish Cypriots.

In statements during a meeting with the trade union of the Turkish Cypriot Airline workers (Hava-Sen), Mr Talat said that only in words the "TCA" belongs to the Turkish Cypriots and that they do not serve the Turkish Cypriots for a long time now.

Responding to the chairman of Hava-Sen, Buran Atakan, who called on him to solve the many problems which the "TCA" are facing, Mr Talat said: "Let me say the following: The Turkish Cypriot Airlines belong to us, but they are not ours, only in words they belong to the Turkish Cypriots. Except from a small period, they have not served the Turkish Cypriots. I am sad to say this, but there is no need to hide the realities'".

Reminding that when the company was established the shares of Turkey and the occupation regime were 50 %-50 %, that these airlines were established for the occupied part of Cyprus and that the administration of the company was given then to Turkey with the justification that the Turkish Cypriots had no experience in the field of aviation, Mr Talat noted: "However, the Turkish Cypriots gained experience and came to the position to be able to administer an aviation company. ' Only in the name is ours, the administration of the company is not ours".

Mr Talat said that they had made a lot of suggestions on this issue, but they have not yet received an answer.

[06] Talat met ambassador Klosson; He sees hopeful developments on the issue of the so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (07.08.04) reports that Mehmet Ali Talat, so-called prime minister of the occupation regime, met on Friday with the US ambassador to Nicosia, Michael Klosson.

In statements after the meeting, which took place at the office of the so-called prime minister, Mr Talat said that there were some hopeful ideas, which are not concrete yet on the issue of the so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots.

Mr Talat said that the visit of Mr Klosson was one of his usual visits and added that they discussed the issue of the "isolation" and exchanged some views on it.

"Especially on the issue of direct flights there are some ideas. They are examined by law offices", he added.

[07] Thousands of false health reports and work permits issued to illegal workers

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (08.08.04) reports that an organized sendicate in the occupied areas of Cyprus has been providing for thousands of illegal workers with false heath reports and work permits.

The so-called ministry of health has already submitted to the "police" 140 files full with false documents, writes KIBRIS, noting that it is believed that the criminal network consisted of Pakistanis, but its great majority is Turks from Turkey.

[08] Illegal workers in the occupied areas infected with typhus

Under the banner banner headlines "They are playing with our health", Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (07.08.04) reports that three illegal workers who live in unhealthy conditions in the occupied areas of Cyprus have been infected with typhoid fever and six with typhus. The situation of another 14 illegal workers, who had similar symptoms, is carefully examined, writes the paper.

The above-mentioned persons work in the construction field in the areas of occupied Morfou and Famagusta.

[09] YENIDUZEN: "This Country is not a jungle"

Local Turkish Cypriot daily YENIDUZEN newspaper (09.08.04) reports under the above title and with a full page picture of a notorious "grey wolf" supporter with a mask on his face branding the wolf sign with his fingers and a dagger hidden under his shirt. The paper reports that while the Greek Cypriots set free doves as a symbol of peace in Dherinya , a handful of wanderer no body knows where do they come from, went to "protect the borders", thus disgracing the "peace loving" Turkish Cypriots.

The paper goes on and reports: "Certain forces get into action in order to do away with the respect the Turkish Cypriot gained all over the world following their 'yes' to the peace and a united Cyprus.

While thousands of troops in the north Cyprus are on duty to guard the borders in the north, from whom do these 'guerilla' type people get the courage to be on the stage?

Who are they these masked guerilla type people with daggers and sharp pointed weapons hidden under their shirts? Since in this country the security is maintained and provided by the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command, The Security Forces Command and The Security General Directorate. Are the security and safety of the country and the borders left to these people?

These people whose numbers were not more that 25 do not represent the Turkish Cypriots. The Turkish Cypriots on this island want 'peace' and not 'tension'' Well, from where these people get the encouragement, to whom do they serve?"
