[01] The efforts of the Turkish side to consolidate the faits accomplish of the illegal Turkish invasion and usurpation of the Greek Cypriot properties will depend on Mr Annanīs report

Mr Talat and the "deputy prime minister" of the occupation regime, Serdar Denktas met yesterday in Ankara with the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Gul and discussed the recent developments in the Cyprus problem and especially the ending of the "isolation" of the Turkish Cypriots. Mr Talat met also with the permanent undersecretary at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baki Ilkin.

In his statements Mr Talat supported that the result of the 24 April referendum was contrary to the expectations of the international community and therefore time is needed so that the new situation is evaluated. "Now we are living this process. We are planning again the necessary political and legal steps for the lifting of the isolation", he said.

Noting that they are waiting for the report which the UN Secretary - General will be submitting to the Security Council and the decision which will be taken afterwards, Mr Talat pointed out that they intent to launch a political attack in line with this decision.

Mr Talat supported that there were no different opinions between Turkey and his so-called government and expressed his belief that they will be taking positive results with their policies.

In statements yesterday in Ankara, Mr Talat said that during the meeting he had in the Turkish capital he discussed the issue of the cases of Greek Cypriots against Turkey at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and added that the issues of the cases will be discussed next moth at the Council of General Affairs of the Council of Europe.

Mr Talat noted that Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots should make some steps "on the case which has been concluded against Turkey" and in this direction they have decided the opening of a Greek Cypriot gymnasium in the occupied areas of Cyprus for the first time after thirty years.

[03] ORTAM newspaper criticises the occupation regime for creating new difficulties to the persons visiting the occupied areas in the framework of the partial lifting of the restrictions

The paper writes that after the decision to stop asking from the persons crossing to the occupied areas to show their passports, now it creates a new issue by prohibiting visits after 24:00 hours. The Turkish Cypriots who cross to the free areas are obliged to return to the occupied areas and if they fail to do so they will face punishments.

[04] A reception gesture to the 'TRNC' from the USA

"The Washington government, which announced that it will re-examine its Cyprus policy, made one more gesture yesterday to the `TRNCī. The USA ambassador to Ankara, Eric Edelman, invited the `TRNCī ambassador to Ankara, Ahmet Zeki Bulunc, to the Independence Day reception. According to sources of the USA Embassy in Ankara, Mr Bulunc was invited in the framework of the openings of the Washington government towards the `TRNCī, however, it was clarified that this invitation was not addressed to him in the capacity of `Ambassador of the TRNCī but as a person. In Mr Edelman's reception, Abdullah Gul, Besir Atalay and Cemil Cicek, represented the government."

[05] Turkey considers recalling its ambassador to Israel

The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mr Abdullah Gul, said that Ankara was concerned with developments in the Middle East and may recall its ambassador to Israel for talks.

"At a time when all these actions are underway and because we are so closely interested in the peace process and are considering what more we can do to revive the peace process", he said during a joint press conference with visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Soloman Passy.

"In order to evaluate all these, our ambassador may come back in the next few days," he said. "He may come, exchange views and go back again".

Gul also said it was possible Turkey may send a senior diplomat at ambassadorial level to serve in its consulate in Jerusalem, which also maintains diplomatic links with the Palestinians.

"Such things happen in practice", Gul said. "Some countries in Europe appoint diplomats to Jerusalem who have served as ambassadors. This is possible".

The paper quotes Israeli diplomatic sources as saying that Ankaraīs moves will affect very negatively the two countriesī relations. It was also said that a strong reaction will come from Jews outside Israel.

TERCUMAN goes on citing the uneasiness on the part of Israel through the following question asked by the same Isareli sources: "If Israel says `I appoint an Ambassador in Kurdistanī what would Turkeyīs reaction be?"

[06] Turkey invited to G-8 summit on Greater Middle East project

Turkey has been invited to the summit along with Yemen, Morocco, Sudan and Algeria, Erdogan told a closed-door meeting of his Justice and Development Party (JDP) in Parliament on Tuesday, according to the Anatolia news agency.

Indicative of his accepting the invitation from U.S. President George W. Bush, Erdogan said he would raise the issue of Israeli attacks in Palestinian territories during the G-8 summit.

Leaders of the G-8 countries, comprising the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and Russia, will meet in early June in the U.S. state of Georgia. One top issue of the meeting is expected to be U.S. plans to encourage modernization in the Middle East as part of its Greater Middle East Initiative.

The U.S. plans have received a cool reception from many of the target countries in the Middle East, which said democratization must come from internal dynamics and not be imposed from outside.

Turkey apparently assumes a "pivotal role" in the U.S. initiative, representing a model case with its Muslim population and functioning democracy.

The G-8 summit will be the first international platform for a substantial discussion of the U.S.-floated project. What is agreed in the summit is also expected to set the framework of a larger-scope discussion during NATO's Istanbul summit on June 28-29 in Istanbul.

[07] Omer Adal has announced that Tibet, Chechenya and Kurdistan will play football matches in the territories of the Republic of Cyprus under Turkish military control

"The old Non-Fifa Board, now organized under the name "New Football Board" (NFB) held its first meeting in Paris under its new name on 19 May.

In spite of a written proposal to the Football Federation by the `TRNCī Youth and Sports Ministry not to participate in the meeting, the Federation chairman took part arguing that the Federation is independent", writes KIBRISLI.

Briefing the sports writers, Mr Adal said that during the meeting he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Administrative Council of NFB and that it was decided in principle to organize the Viva World cup in 2005. He said that the first friendly match will take place on June 5 in Nicosia with Tibet and the second on 28 July in the city of Tromso of Norway with the Sami, if league matches pose no obstacle.

He also said that relations with NFB were established one year ago and that his federation is among the founding members.

As regards the members of NFB and their status the paper writes the following:

"Independent areas and communities, which for various reasons cannot become members of FIFA, will take part in the Viva World Cup to be organized in May 2005 in the `TRNCī, it was announced. Among the said countries are Monaco, Tibet, Gibraltar, Sami, Chechenya and Kurdistan".

To a journalistīs comment that in the NFB there are problematic areas and to a question as to whom Kurdistan represents, Mr Adal replied that their aim is not political and that as regards Kurdistan they conveyed to him that they represent the Kurdish group in Northern Iraq.
