[01] Eroglu pleased with Turkey's move to grant rights to Turkish Cypriots

Eroglu told reporters that there were many Turkish Cypriots living in Turkey and that settlement of their accommodation, property acquisition and social security problems was of utmost importance.

When a reporter said that Turkey had taken a decision about the rights to be granted to Turkish Cypriot people living on its territory and asked if related to this there was work available, Eroglu said that they signed a protocol with Sukru Sina Gurel, then State Minister for Cyprus, and he was pleased that this protocol was put into practice.

Eroglu stated that Turkey would give accommodation permit for five years from now on and the Turkish Cypriots would have the right to live, work, and acquire property just like Turkish citizens.

[02] Denktas threatens Turkey of abandoning the leadership

Did you ever hear during election campaigns a single leader to voice handing over Cyprus? Why? Because such thing does not exist. But let us solve it. We too want to settle this problem. Turkey has sacrificed it sons to solve this problem but again nothing happened.''

[03] Turkish army general will illegally visit the occupied areas of Cyprus

The paper writes that the delegation will remain in occupied Cyprus between 19 and 21 September and will meet, inter alia, with Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktas, the so-called "Prime Minister", Dervish Eroglu and the illegal ambassador of Turkey to the pseudostate, Hayati Guven.

[04] The occupation regime prevents Turkish Cypriots from crossing to the free areas of Cyprus

According to an announcement by the press office of CLP, a meeting between the committees of the Turkish Cypriot political party CLP and the Greek Cypriot political party DIKO (Democratic Party) was cancelled yesterday, due to irresponsible behaviour of the so-called Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministry.

The General Secretary of CLP, Mr Ozal Ziya, sending a protest letter to the so-called Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ertugruloglu, said: "This approach of the 'Foreign Ministry' which has put as a condition the written invitation from DIKO, in order to give permission to the committee of CLP to cross to the free area of Cyprus, cannot be explained or otherwise it is a product of someone who tries to disgrace CLP".

Moreover, KIBRIS (19.09.02) reports that the Chairman of the Federation of the Turkish Cypriot Labour Unions, Mr Onder Konuloglu, criticized the fact that they took a negative reply to their application for attending the "Cyprus Unions Forum", which will be held between 31 October and 1 November in the free area of Cyprus.

Konuloglu described this situation as a "shame".

[05] Talat accuses Denktas and Ertugruloglu of sabotaging Turkey's and the Turkish Cypriots' course towards the EU

Mr Talat commented yesterday on Mr Denktas' statements regarding the issue of the circular published by Turkey's Internal Affairs Ministry, which decided to give to the Turkish Cypriots the status of a "Turkish citizen" and on Mr Ertugruloglu's threats regarding a war in Cyprus in case the Republic of Cyprus joins the EU before a solution to its political problem.

Mr Talat noted that Mr Denktas and Mr Ertugruolglu "with their behaviour are sabotaging both Turkey's and the Turkish Cypriots' EU accession course".

Mr Talat argued that Mr Denktas' views on the Cyprus problem "are wrong and for years lead Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots only to tension".

The RTP leader pointed out that Mr Ertugruloglu's statements are "nothing else but threats and a call for war" and described them "unacceptable".

[06] Durduran says Denktas has no support

In a written statement issued yesterday, Mr Durduran noted that after the 6 September meeting in Paris Mr Denktas announced a proposal and added that "no one knows with whom Mr Denktas had decided" this. Mr Durduran noted, inter alia, the following in his statement:

".Even if he had said that he would disclose them (translator's note: Mr Denktas' proposals) he did not do this at the Assembly. He might not disclose them in the future as well, because the Greek Cypriots have said that these are worse than the proposals made before and that they are not significant. However, Mr Denktas himself has also disclosed aspects of them and as far as it is understood, neither the Greek Cypriot side nor the concerned foreign states considered these helpful to finding a solution. .While it is clear that the people want a solution until the end of the year, the fact that Mr Denktas has not even returned to the point he was when he had abandoned the negotiating table, is not something that could be accepted. Informing the assembly and listening the views of the political party leaders is something he does only for the show, as he declares a new stance without asking. There is no point in listening to the party leaders afterwards. .".

[07] Turkey's President addressed ground-breaking ceremony for oil pipeline

Sezer who stressed that Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project was not a legend anymore, but a reality said that East-West Energy Corridor project reached a point which could not step back. President Sezer thanked to Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliyev, Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, U.S. government, Azerbaijani Oil Company, Georgian International Oil Company, Pipeline Transportation Corp (Botas) which exerted efforts for putting the East-West Energy Corridor project into practice, the companies constituting Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Company and SOCAR, TPAO, BP, Statoil, Unocal, Amerada-Hess and Itochu companies which have supported the project from the very beginning and all experts and officials.

Stressing that Turkey has defended, from the very beginning, the transportation of Caspian Basin`s oil and natural gas through Turkey to the western markets as the most appropriate alternative for Turkey and the countries in the region and Turkey exerted great efforts on that issue, Sezer said that putting those projects into practice would lead to form both a secure energy bridge through Turkey between Caucasus, Central Asia countries and world markets and also increase the energy security and diversification of Turkey and the West.

The Energy and Natural Resources Minister Zeki Cakan said that the project was important for Turkey and 50 million tons of oil would flow from Caspian to Ceyhan via Baku-Tbilisi route annually as the project was completed.

Turkey would take 200-300 million U.S. dollars of transition fees every year, Cakan said.

Cakan pointed out that the project was important for Turkey`s economic independence and stressed that there were not any political problems.

Noting that BOTAS had completed basic engineering and detailed engineering works, Cakan said that they would start construction works and they would hold the foundation laying ceremony in Ceyhan on September 26.

Cakan added that having problems in the project was not likely.

President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliyev and Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze signed on Wednesday a document for ``next generations`` in a ceremony which was held to lay the foundation of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline construction.

The document signed by the three presidents on the pipeline and cooperation among the three countries was buried in a time capsule.

The document said, ``BTC combining Caspian, Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea is being put into practice as a result of joint efforts. The firms from Turkey, the United States, Italy, France and Britain have very important roles in this project which constitutes the beginning of new level of East-West energy corridor.`` The document stated that the realization of BTC would change the region, bring political stability and contribute to an increase in people`s welfare.

The pipeline which will transport Azerbaijani oil to world markets is expected to cost 2.95 billion U.S. dollars. The 1,730-kilometre pipeline which will be laid from Baku to Ceyhan via Tbilisi will have the capacity to transport 50 million tons of oil annually. It will be operational in the first quarter of 2005. According to the BTC project, construction will start in first half of 2003 and finish at the end of 2004 and oil will start flowing through the pipeline in 2005 spring.

BP has 38. 21 percent, SOCAR has 25.00 percent, Statoil has percent 9.58 percent, Unocal has 8.90 percent, TPAO has 7.55 percent, Eni has 5 percent, Itochu has 3.40 percent, Amerada Hess has 2.36 percent and Total Final Elf has 5 percent share in BTC Company.
