[01] "Avrupa" sees training camps of NPM in occupied Famagusta

Under the front page title "Our terrorists!" "Avrupa" (10.10.01) wonders whether the "Gulseren Training Camp" of the occupation army in Famagusta has been turned into a training camp of members of the terrorist National People 's Movement (NPM), which aims at silencing the voices against Ankara and the occupation regime.

The paper writes that, as it has been known recently "some high ranking officials of NPM" have very often been visiting "Gulseren Training Camp", but no concrete information was given about the purpose of their visits.

Furthermore, Hasan Keskin, NPM`s responsible for Famagusta area, has said referring to the Turkish Cypriot opposition: "All those have gone insane. Let the Gulseren business finish and we shall give them such a powerful strike that they will not be able to make the slightest protest for 5 - 6 years. This is enough for us for the time being".

[02] A 30 megawatt power station to be built at Gastria

KIBRIS (10.10.01) reports that within 2002 Turkey's Electricity Joint-Stock Company (TEAS) will build an electric power station of 30 megawatt at the occupied village of Gastria, in order to reinforce the pseudostate`s biggest electric power station in the village of Trapeza, the so-called "Teknecik Electric Power Station". Once the power station at Gastria is completed work will start for the construction of a 60 megawatt unit at Teknecik.

The paper writes that the station will cost about 20 million US dollars and adds that the so-called Director of the Electricity Foundation of the pseudostate, Asim Karaderi, said that TEAS would invite an international tender for building the power station at Gastria. Mr Karaderi noted that the station would be built with the method "Built - Operate - Transfer" (BOT) and is expected to solve the serious problem of the electricity interruptions in the pseudostate.

According to Mr Karaderi, the station in Gastria will be only a part of the "Electric Master Plan", which is expected to cost 100 million dollars.

[03] Kenan Akin to be operated in Ankara

KIBRIS (10.10.01) reports that Kenan Akin, so-called "deputy" of the Nationalist Justice Party (NJP), will go to Ankara in order to be operated.

Kenan Akin, who has been injured in the accident where the Democratic Party' s so-called "deputy" Ahmet Elbasan lost his life, is to be treated in the Military Medical Academy of Gulhane.

[04] Suha Turkoz new General Secretary of NUP

KIBRIS (10.10.01) reports that Suha Turkoz has been elected General Secretary of the National Unity Party (NUP). The paper writes that Mr. Turkoz has taken the place of Vehbi Zeki Serter who had been elected so-called "Speaker" of the "Assembly".

[05] Pakistani Military Attache expresses support to the "Muslim Turkish Cypriots"

"Yeni Demokrat" (10.10.01) reports that Colonel Javet Iqbal, Land and Naval Forces Military Attache of Pakistan to Ankara, said yesterday that his country has always supported and will continue to support the "Muslim Turkish Cypriot people".

The Pakistani Attache, who was speaking during a visit to the so-called National Struggle Museum, said that he was proud of being in the so-called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus".

[06] The Chairman of the Higher Education Committee of Kazakhstan hopes for further development of the relations between his country and the pseudostate

"Halkin Sesi" (10.10.01) reports that Prof. Dr Bolat Mirzaliyev, Chairman of the Higher Education Committee of Kazakhstan, has expressed the wish that the relations between his country and the pseudostate will be further developed.

Talking yesterday during his meeting with the so-called National Education and Culture "Minister", Ilkay Kamil, Mr Mizarliyev noted that a lot of students from Kazakhstan study in the illegal universities of the occupied area and a lot of Turkish Cypriot students study in the universities of Kazakhstan.

On the other hand, Mr Kamil said that the pseudostate wishes to develop its relations with Kazakhstan not only in Education, but in other fields as well.

[07] PUM against Cyprus being used as a base against neighbouring countries

According to KIBRIS (10/10/01) the Executive Committee of the Patriotic Union Movement yesterday issued a statement by which it evaluated the military operation launched by the United States and Britain against Afghanistan.

In the statement PUM stressed that the root cause of terrorism is misery and poverty and that they are against any form of violent action which is against humanity.

The statement further adds that this war, which began in order to punish the countries that nourish terrorism and the terrorists, will be a cause for destruction of the environment and important natural resources.

Referring to the possibility of the British Bases being used during this operation, PUM noted that no permission must be given to transform either North or South Cyprus into a base of attacks against neighbouring countries.
