[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Denktas says that the Turkish policy on Cyprus is not defined only by himKIBRIS (14.8.01) reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktas, has claimed that the Turkish side's policy on the Cyprus problem «is defined with agreements» between Turkey, the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), the pseudogovernment and the pseudoparliament.During a meeting yesterday with a delegation of the Association of the so-called «Fighters», Mr Denktas, commenting on the opinion that he is intransigent and that he must make concessions, noted that the decisions regarding the Cyprus problem are not taken only by him. The Turkish policy on Cyprus, he added, consists of not «giving up» from the pseudostate and rejecting any proposal which does not include the guarantees of Turkey and provides for the return of the Greek Cypriot refugees to their homes. Commenting on the six principles of the Greek Cypriot side, which were recently published in the Greek Cypriot papers, Mr Denktas said the following: «...The package which made us abandon the (negotiations) table has given them this courage. If you are still saying `go and talk on this package`, it is as if you are saying `go and surrender`. I represent a case supported by the majority of my people and Turkey. It is meaningless to say that the issue will be solved if I withdraw and someone else comes into my place...».
