[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Eroglu says ``border'' in Cyprus cannot be compared to Berlin Wall According to illegal BRTK (16:30 hours, 26.10.00), so-called prime ministerDervis Eroglu told the Turkish-German Friendship Federation officials, who are visiting the pseudostate, that there can be no similarity between the Berlin wall that separated a people belonging to the same nation and the ``border'' in Cyprus which divides ``two separate states''.Eroglu said that Turkish-German friendship dates back to history, adding that the friendship associations further consolidate that friendship. He further noted that he is pleased with the efforts exerted by the Federation officials currently visiting the pseudostate. Noting that he head of the Federation referred to the threat of fundamentalism and Turkey/s membership in the EU, Eroglu concluded by saying that great duties befall Germany, which is one of the most important states in Europe, to that end. [02] Serdar Denktash insists on his intransigent views According to KIBRIS (27.10.00) the leader of the Democratic Party (DP),Serdar Denktash, had a meeting yesterday with the UN Secretary General/s Cyprus Advisor, Alvaro de Soto.Serdar Denktash reiterated his known views regarding the settlement of the Cyprus problem on a confederal basis. Denktash said that Turkish Cypriots who are living near the confrontation line are anxious, fearing that in a possible settlement they will be displaced again. He said that they have to explain to these people that there could be some rearrangements and that they might be obliged to change their villages but that they will not become refugees like in 1963 or 1974. He said he hoped that the 5th round of talks will pave the way for face to face meetings.
