[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Eroglu briefed on economic packageAccording to KIBRIS (22.5.00) the so-called Prime Minister of the pseudostate Dervis Eroglu has claimed that the country has a stable ``government'', adding that the so-called National Unity Party NUP communal Liberation Party CLP coalition ``government'' is working with goodwill in a bid to overcome the problems.Mustafa Akinci, so-called acting and deputy prime minister and state minister, economy and finance minister Mehmet Bayram; and Public Works and Transportation Minister Salih Miroglu visited Eroglu, who is recovering from a recent illness at the Jasmine Court Hotel in occupied Kyrenia and gave him detailed information on the final version of the economic package the so-called Cabinet prepared on 20 May. In a statement to the media during the meeting, Eroglu said that they will hold a detailed discussion on the socio-economic package, adding that this country, might be faced with economic problems from time to time. Noting that certain ``government'' scenarios have been mentioned recently, Eroglu said that this is the first time that the TRNC has had such a harmonious so-called coalition government and that creating a government crisis would not benefit anyone. Pointing out that if all the sectors of the community are in solidarity then the problems can be overcome more easily, Eroglu said that a period in which the country can be in cooperation, unity and solidarity has begun, adding that if measures are not taken now more bitter measures might be necessary in the future. [02] Talat faults `coalition/ for imposing packageAccording to KIBRIS (22.5.00) the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (RTP) Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the so-called National Unity Party- Communal Liberation Party (UBP-TKP) coalition is trying to impose its economic package on the community and called on the ``government'' to change its stand. In a written statement, RTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat maintained that the leaders of the two parties seem insistent on ignoring the principle of participation, one of the basic principles of democracy, and on doing whatever they please. Talat pointed out that the so-called government will merely brief the parties and organizations outside the NUP and the CLP since it is impossible to reach a consensus. He asked: ``How can a moral or de facto consensus be reached on a package drawn up without the input of other organizations?'' Talat asserted that social accords can only be reached moving from the grassroots up, and he cited the conciliation document drawn up when the `RTP was in power as an example. He pointed out that the approach of imposing policies and the omission of nongovernmental organizations at a time when Cyprus is getting ready to join the EU membership process and in the midst of a serious economic crisis can benefit neither the country nor the community. Such policies, he said, can only further the interests of those circles that want to usher in antidemcoratic regimes. However, the statement says, none of these measures were put to practice for a whole year.
