[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Turkey approves additional loan to occupied areaAccording to illegal BAYRAK Radio, (1.3.00) the Turkish Council of Ministers has approved the second additional economic cooperation protocol foreseeing the extension of a 60 trillion Turkish lira loan to the occupied area this year. This amount is in addition to the $250 million Turkey is extending to the occupied area in line with the 3 January 1997 economic cooperation protocol.According to the additional protocol, the so-called government must use these funds in social security, public finance, banking, and privatization as soon as possible. On the other hand the Turkish Government will continue to financially and technically support the occupied area. Under the protocol, the two "countries" will sign an agreement citing the conditions and mutual obligations for the extension of the said loan. The "officials" of the "countries" are expected to meet in the coming days to hold talks on the loan agreement. [02] British diplomat meets Turkish Cypriot leadersAccording to KIBRIS (2.3.00), Jeremy Hill, Head of the South-European Desk at the British Foreign Office, had a number of meetings in the occupied area yesterday. Hill met with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, Communal Liberation Party leader Mustafa Akinci, Republican Turkish Party leader Mehmet Ali Talat and Democratic Party leader Serdar Denktash.Speaking to reporters prior to meeting with Hill, Rauf Denktash said that "we always need foreign representatives in order to explain the Turkish Cypriot views". In his turn Jeremy Hill said that they continue to support the solution process initiated by the UN aimed at solving the Cyprus problem. Communal Liberation Party leader Akinci said that they favour a settlement in which domestically there will be "two states" and on the international level there will be a single international identity. Akinci also said that until a joint delegation is formed for the EU, the Turkish Cypriot side should establish a separate channel with the EU. (MY) [03] Occupied area mobilizes for promoting tourismAccording to KIBRIS (2.3.00) the so-called director of the Tourism Promotion Office of the pseudostate, Orhan Tolun, has said that for promotional purposes they have an estimated budget amounting to 2,890,336, 900,000 TL.He said that after London and Antalya they will open another office in Frankfurt, Germany, to promote tourism in the occupied area. He added promotional work will be carried out by employing professional people.
