[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] ISRAELI DANYA DEVELOPMENT FIRM IN THE OCCUPIED AREAAccording to HURRIYET KIBRIS (3.11.99), Israeli Danya Development Investment Company, is building a thousand-bed capacity student dormitory at the so-called East Mediterannean University in the occupied area.The paper says that in order to take part in the ground breaking ceremony, Israel: partners of the company, Vraneski Esrael, Rinkov Yair, Hogai Shalom and Kahan Benyamin (names as published by the paper) arrived in the occupied area. The ground breaking ceremony held yesterday. The new dormitory building will be completed within one year and will cost between 7-8 million US dollars. The project known as the Mediterannean Student Complex will be ready for the 2000/01 academic year. Speaking at the foundation-stone laying ceremony the director of the Danya, Vraneski Esrael said that for the completion of this project 8 million US dollars have been allocated, ``I hope this project will be a milestone for the start of the new projects on the island. This investment will pave the way for other investments in the developing country'' Vraneski declared. The so-called Cyprus representative of the Danya Development Erdil Nami in his turn expressed his joy in realising this project and said that it was Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf denktash that extended most help in realizing this foreign investment project. MY [02] TURKISH STATE MINISTER ARRIVES IN THE OCCUPIED AREAAccording to KIBRIS (3.11.99) Turkey`s State Minister Ramazan Mirzaoglu arrived yesterday with a four member delegation in the occupied area for a four-day working visit.Speaking to reporters in Ankara prior to his departure, State Minister Mirzaoglu said that he would hold contacts in the pseudo state about Maritime operations, about the operation of ports and on technical cooperation. Mirzaoglu with his delegation met last night with the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, the so-called Prime Minister Devis Eroglu, some so- called ministers of the pseudo state and others. DN [03] CAGAN CONTINUES HIS CONTACTS IN THE OCCUPIED AREAKIBRIS (3.11.99) reports that the Turkish Forestry Minister Nami Cagan, who continues his visit in the occupied area, signs today with the so-called Agriculture and Forestry Minister Irsen Kuchuk an ``Assistance and Cooperaction Protocol''. The protocol envisages planning in the field of forestry, protection of forests in the occupied areas and supply of equipment and air support from Turkey to extinguishing forest fires. The protocol also envisages cooperation in border applications of new forest fields in the occupied areas and land survey. The Turkish Forestry Minister will supply spare parts of the vehicles, which were donated to the preudo state for use in the field of forestry, in accordance with the protocol. Turkey will supply plants and seeds to develop plantation in the occupied area in accordance with the protocol, which envisages cooperation in afforestation that is being carried out within framework of the ``TRNC Forestry Master Plan''. Turkey and the pseudo state will cooperate in the national park projects and training staff.DP [04] MAINLAND TURK ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING 2 KILOGRAMMS OF CANNABISAccording to KIBRIS (3.11.99) Denktash`s police have arrested Hasan Nacaroglu (28) from Hatay - Turkey, who arrived in the occupied area on 29 October as a tourist.Denktash`s police have found two kilograms of cannabis in Nacaroglu`s possession, having street value of four billion TL. The so-called District court issued three days of arrest warrent for Nacaroglu. MY [05] TURKSISH CYPRIOTS IN AUSTRALIA REACT AGAINST DENKTASH`S STANCE TOWARDSPRESSAccording to AVRUPA (3.11.99), Association of University Graduates of Australia in a letter to the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, urged him to be more tolerant and broad-minded towards the press. In the letter the Association described Denktash`s attempt to take legal action against press as an attempt to subdue and to cow the press. The letter has expressed support for the articles published in ``Aurupa'' and noted that Denktash`s action against the Turkish Press, has created a bad image for the ``TRNC'' abroad. It urged Denktash to reconsider his decision. MY [06] FILIPINO ACADEMICIANS IN THE OCCUPIED AREAAccording to Ortam (3.11.99) four Filipino Deans and assistant Deans from four separate universities arrived in the occupied areas to have contacts with the so-called universities, with a view to developing ways of co- operation between their universities and the universities in the occured area. The Filipino delegation met yesterday with the so-called National Education and Culture Minister Mehmet Altinay.Altinay said that the Filipino academicians will learn a lot of things about the universities in the occupied areas during their visit and they will also enjoy Turkish Cypriot`s hospitality, pointing out that they are going to establish a bridge of co-operation in all educational fields.
