[01] Denktash criticizes Greek Cypriots, UK´s Sir David

Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has declared that it will not be possible to sit at the negotiating table with the Greek Cypriot side as long as the Cyprus Government refuses to acknowledge the ``TRNC''. Denktash said:

``The Greek Cypriots should realize that their borders end at the Ledra Palace checkpoint''.

Illegal Bayrak radio (10:30 hours, 2.8.99) reports that the ``Turkish Cypriot National Determination Platform'', composed of 22 ``nongovernmental'' organizations, called on Denktash Monday. In a statement, Denktash remarked that the ``Determination Platform'' is conducting very good work to the benefit of the Turkish Cypriots. Denktash criticized the statements published in a newspaper yesterday by Britain´s special envoy Sir David Hannay and a Greek Cypriot official.

Denktash claimed that the Greek Cypriot official´s declaration that their borders end in Kyrenia ``expose the true face of the Greek Cypriot Administration.'' He further claimed that Sir David Hannay continues to view events in terms of the interests of his own country and that therefore the facts have not been revealed in Cyprus for 36 years.

Also criticizing the claims that the two sides will be brought together and forced to talk to one another until they reach a solution, Denktash noted that a conclusion to be reached by force cannot be lasting. He claimed that the EU membership envisages the Turkish Cypriots´ complete separation from Turkey and indirect ownership of the whole of Cyprus. He added: ``When you want something, you should also consider its price''.

[02] Turkish transportation minister in the occupied area

Anatolia Agency (12:43 hours, 2.8.99) reports that Enis Oksuz, the Turkish Minister of Transportation and Communications, arrived on Monday in the occupied area to attend the opening ceremony of the ``TRNC Turkcell (TRNCELL)'', a mobile communications network.

Noting that he considers Cyprus as a ``Member of the Family'', Oksuz, during his contacts, said that they were expending efforts to enable the Turkish Cypriots to make use of the same facilities that the Turkish people are benefiting in the field of communications.

``The Turkish Cypriot nation has a special importance for the people living in the Republic of Turkey. We are like a family and we consider the Cyprus case as our case'', he said.

    [03] Denktash meets Egyptian Ambassador

According to AVRUPA (3.8.99), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash met yesterday with the Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus, Muhammed Al-Kadi.

During the meeting they discussed the Cyprus issue. There was no statement after the meeting.

[04] Rogiros Georgiou appears before so-called court

According to KIBRIS (3.8.99), the Greek Cypriot with Canadian citizenship, Rogiros Georgiou, who was abducted by the occupation regime on July 22, appeared yesterday before the so-called court, where he was accused of two ``violations'': ``entering into a military area'' and ``violating the borders of the TRNC''. Rogiros denied the two changes. The so-called court denied Georgiou´s plea to stay at a hotel and they sent him to jail.

He will appear again before the so-called court on 10 August. (DP)

[05] Turkish Cypriot soccer team plays in Germany

KIBRIS (3.8.99) reports that the soccer team of the occupied village of Geunyeli is in Germany taking part in the tournament which is organized in Aalen, Germany.

At the first match, Geunyeli´s team played against the German team Unterkochen and it won with 5-3.

Today, Gonyeli´s team will compete against VFR Aalen.

[06] No repairs for Greek school

AVRUPA (3.8.99) criticizes the occupation regime which has promised that they would repair the Greek school in occupied Famagusta during the summer vacations, so it would be ready for the new academic year, but still nothing has been done.
