[01] No changes in Turkish stand on Cyprus According to Anatolia (1552 hours, 20/4/99) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf

Denktash has stressed that the Turkish Cypriots will never allow the guarantee system to be turned into a bargaining tool, adding that the world must treat the two communities in Cyprus equally.

Ambassador Aydan Karahan, Turkish Foreign Ministry deputy under secretary; Ambassador Candan Ezen, political planning director general and third secretary Cem Utkan arrived for talks in the occupied area. The delegation had a meeting with Denktash who said at the meeting that nobody should play with the guarantee system in Cyprus or try to stage multinational force scenarios. He stated that the Turkish Cypriots insist on their position of ``negotiating at the level of two states'', and added that the world is slowly realizing this and the reasons for it.

Ambassador Karahan said, in turn, that elections were held in Turkey two days ago, that this will lead to the establishment of a different parliament, and that as a voter he expects good things to happen.

Karahan emphasized that there will be no changes ``in Turkey´s determined attitude regarding Cyprus''. He added: ``The whole world is slowly realizing and assessing this determined attitude''.

Karahan , who is a former Turkish envoy to the occupied area, said that he was visiting the occupied area in order to brief Denktash on the developments taking place in the region in connection with Cyprus. He and his delegation will leave the occupied area on Thursday.
