[02] Turks `Absolutely Opposedī to federation

The Cyprus question and other foreign policy issues were discussed at the Political Pulse programme on TRT (21.3.99). Participants included Dervis Eroglu, so-called prime minister of the ``TRNC'', retired ambassador Sukru Elekdag; Professor Erol Manisali; columnist Sami Kohen; and journalist Nur Batur.

As reported by TRT Eroglu stressed during the programme, that the ``TRNC'' is absolutely opposed to the idea of a federal administration in Cyprus and insisted that the reality of two separate states be accepted. He pointed out that since 1992, the Turkish Cypriots have been saying officially that there are two separate states in Cyprus. So long as the world refuses to accpet that, he said, there cannot be negotiations.

Eroglu added that the presence of the Turkish troops on the island is a source of guarantee for the ``TRNC'' and asserted that the Turkish Cypriots will not have any security the minute the Turkish troops withdraw from the island.

He alleged that the Cyprus Government and the separatist terrorist organization (PKK), consider Turkey their common enemy . The fact the terrorist ringleader was caught with a Greek Cypriot passport is proof of that, he said
