[01] DENKTASH: "TRNC WILL CONTINUE ON PATH TO INTEGRATION"

According to illegal Bayrak Radio (0600 hours, 17.3.99), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has said that each time the Cyprus Government takes a step toward integrating with the EU, the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)" will take a similar but more determined step toward integrating with Turkey.

Denktash was lecturing at the Culture University the other night on the latest situation in Cyprus. He claimed that the Greek Cypriots are waiting for the opportunity "to obliterate the Turkish Cypriots from the face of the earth" the minute there will be a chaotic situation in Turkey.

Denktash said: "We will continue on our path together with Turkey. We will continue on the path to integration. We have no other way. Our visions are now united. With that vision, the TRNC will live and be enhanced. This is a national vision."

Denktash stated that "peace in Cyprus can only be achieved by the two equal sides", claiming that the pseudostate is "on the right, moral, and legitimate path." He noted that an international jurists conference will be held on the island soon where the Cyprus problem will be discussed in its legal aspects.

[02] TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTRY DELEGATION IN THE OCCUPIED AREA

According to KIBRIS (19.3.99) a fourteen-man delegation from the Turkish Foreign Ministry is to arrive in the occupied area today to get first-hand information regarding the latest developments in the Cyprus problem. The delegation includes two ambassadors, nine departmental heads, one sectional director and two chief clerks.

The delegation will stay three days and will hold a series of contacts, among them with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.
