    [01] Denktash, Eroglu on Ocalan arrest

    According to Anatolia Agency (17:10 hours, 16.2.99), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash said on Tuesday that the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan was ``an historical event.''

    ``This proved the power and greatness of the Turkish nation and this also proved that you can´t gain anything by terrorism'', he said.

    Anatolia (12:30 hours, 16.2.99) also says that Dervis Eroglu has said that the capture of Abdullah Ocalan, ``conveys an exemplary message with regard to Turkey´s strength and greatness.''

    According to illegal Bayrak radio (16:30 hours 16.2.99) Republican Turkish Party leader Mehmet Ali Talat has issued a statement in connection with the capture of Abdullah Ocalan. Talat assessed the capture of Ocalan as ``a welcoming event''. Explaining that he knew that Ocalan was hiding in the Greek Embassy in Kenya, Talat added: ``However, we were not aware that he was captured and brought to Turkey''. Noting that Turkey is a state of law, Talat said: ``The judiciary process will start now and common sense should prevail within this process.''
