[01] Denktash says US, UK, UN aiding Greek Cypriot ``designs''

Denktash, who made a statement by phone to illegal BRT, said that the Greeks and the Greek Cypriots, are still trying to use the missile issue as a bargaining chip. ``The important thing is that various states and institutions, such as the United States, Britain, and the United Nations, are assisting them in their efforts. Do not forget what Clerides said. He said that the United States has promsied him that it will secure an arms reduction and will make sure that Denktash comes to the negotiating table. Naturally, I do not know whether these promises were made, but our conditions for holding negotiations are clear. Let them first acknowledge who we are. Let them accept that they are not our government'', Denktash added.

Denktash said that there is a single formula on the table, adding that this is nothing other than one involving a confederation. He noted that if the Greek Cypriots accept this formula, the Turkish Cypriot side is ready for everything. Denktash described the recent UN resolution as a respectable one, adding ``It would not be right, however, to accept and implement every respectable resolution. We will continue to defend our rights, our interests, and our status.''

[02] Azeri official sees sale of S-300 missiles to Armenia as threat against Turkey

While the tension caused by the S-300 missiles that the Greek Cypriots bought from Russia has subsided with their diversion to Crete, Russia´s deployment of S-300 missiles in Armenia over the past six months has brought Turkey face to face with a new S-300 crisis, the paper says.

In a special statement to ZAMAN, Guluzade pointed out that Russia has equipped Armenia with S-300 missiles, modern warplanes on a par with F-16s, and MIG-29 planes.

Guluzade said: ``The real target is not small Azerbaijan but Turkey. A terrible plot is being hatched to secure the flow of the Azerbaijani oil not through Turkey but through Russia, as in the past. With this trend, the Karabakh problem would not be solved for another four years. I am now abandoning diplomatic language and declaring openly that the issue is one of a cold war between Russia and Turkey. Azerbaijan, therefore, wants to sign a defense cooperation agreement with Turkey similar to the one signed between Russia and Armenia. We do not have to be shy of anyone. The Turkish Armed Forces should help Azerbaijan more for the sake of Turkey´s own security.''

Guluzade also added that the help to Azerbaijan would strengthen Turkey´s position in the region.

Vafa Guluzade argued that in rapidly arming up Armenia, Russia is in fact targeting Turkey. Guluzade said: ``Because of the frequent changes of government in Turkey you are not concerned with the danger so close to you. The S-300 missiles have been deployed right under your nose, yet you are totally oblivious to this. Russia is against Turkey gaining strength in the region. It plans to descent to the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea and control the Turkish Straits and the whole region. The S-300 missiles sold to the Greek Cypriots were part of that plan. Ankara should now turn its gaze to this part of the world''.

Noting that in his book ``Dash to the East'' Vladimir Zhirinovskiy, the leader of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party, openly refers to such plans, Guluzade said that, in his statement to the Duma two days ago, Baburin, the deputy speaker of the Duma, revealed Russia´s real objective when in an oblique criticism of Turkey he announced: ``We made a mistake during the First World War. We should not have left Kars, Erzurum, and Van to Turkey. Those lands should belong to Armenia''.

[03] Avrupa comments on ``Turkish-owned title-deeds'' phenomenon in the occupied area

The paper wonders: ``If these are building plots that are up for sale with Turkish title-deeds, well then on whose title-deeds are the rest of the building plots? After 1994, property ownership in north Cyprus has divided those who were living on this land and those who were brought in and settled here after 1974. As the case is, this also divided the building plots which are up for sale.

Some people drew attention to the fact that on some building plots which are up for sale advertisments are placed saying: `Building plots with Turish (-owned) title-deeds´ and they said: This demonstrates that in north Cyprus there are building plots whose owners are not Turks. Although the state issues title-deeds, including title deeds for property left behind by the Greek Cypriots, in future, if a settlement is reached, it is doubtful up to which level these title-deeds will be recognized. Unilateral expropriation of these properties and their subsequent alocation to those brought in and settled to the north Cyprus will create legal problems, not only internationally, but also with the true (legal) owners and with those (Turkish Cypriots) who left property in south Cyprus''.
