[01] Cem seeks support from Belarus in Cyprus problem
According to KIBRIS (20.10.98) Turkish Foreign Minister, Ismail Cem, had a
meeting yesterday with his Belarus counterpart, Ivan Antonovic, who is
currently visiting Ankara.
During the meeting Cem informed Antonovic about the Cyprus problem and
demanded Belarus´s support which recently become a member of the Non-
aligned Movement (NAM). Cem said: ``Belarus is joining the Non-aligned
Movement and this, from our point of view, is happy news. Because I know
that Belarus will be the representative of common sense in that Movement.
For this reason I have explained a little bit the Cyprus problem.''
Cem went on and said that he had talked with Antonovic the issue of a
delegation from the pseudostate visiting Minsk, the capital of Belarus, to
convey their views directly to the Belarus officials.
Cem said that he had told Antonovic the reasons behind the tension with
Syria and the Cyprus problem. (MY)
[02] CLP protests decision on electricity bills
According to ORTAM (20.10.98) the Communal Liberation Party (CLP) has
protested the decision taken by Denktash´s regime to increase electricity
prices and to have electricity bills indexed to the US dollar.
The CLP deputies headed by their leader Mustafa Akinci toured the business
society of the occupied area and distributed pamphlets protesting the
