    [01] Denktash notes ``2-State Principle'' at meeting with UNīs Hercus

    According to illegal Bayrak radio (10:30 hours, 7.7.98, Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has conveyed to Ann Hercus, UN Secretary Generalīs assistant special envoy in Cyprus, ``that a reasonable solution to the Cyprus issue can be secured through talks based on the principle of two states.'' Hercus, who officially assumed her duties the other day, visited Denktash yesterday. Denktash briefed her on the Cyprus issue.

    In a statement during the meeting Hercus said that she realized the difficulties concerning the Cyprus issue the second day she assumed her duties, adding, however, that she will do everything in her power to help both sides by remaining impartial during her term in office.

    [02] Turkeyīs Army Chief Karadayi to visit ``North Cyprus'' 10 July

    According to KIBRIS (8.7.98), Turkish Chief of the General Staff Gen. Ismail Hakki Karadayi will reportedly pay a visit to the occupied area for various contacts and meetings.

    According to a NTV report last night, Karadayi will arrive on Friday, 10 July, and during his two-day visit he will meet Dentkash and Dervis Eroglu. Karadayi, who is also going to meet Commander of the so-called Security Forces Birg. Gen. Hasan Peker Gunal, will leave the island on Saturday, 11 July.

    [03] Turkish maritime lines ship travels inaugurate cruise covering Israel, Turkey and the occupied area

    According to KIBRIS (8.7.98) passenger ship Karadeniz belonging to Turkish Maritime Lines has started a tour from Haifa-Bodrum-Kusadasi Marmaris- Antalya the occupied Kyrenia and Haifa. The passenger ship called the occupied Kyrenia port yesterday.

    According to the paper, ``Karadeniz'' will call the occupied area every eight days.

    The ship will continue to ply between the above mentioned ports until October.

    The 188 passenger capacity ship has 67-man crew.

    [04] Denktash meets third member of the Missing Committee

    According to KIBRIS (8.7.98) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, had a meeting yesterday with the third member of the Missing Committee Jean Pierre Ritter.

    During the meeting Denktash repeated his known allegations regarding the missing persons issues.

    [05] Argentinean commander refuses to accept the service of a Dutch Soldier

    with dual nationality

    According to KIBRIS (8.7.98) Argentinean commander of the UN Cyprus Peace Force General De Vergera has refused to accept a Dutch soldier of dual nationality (Turkish and Dutch) to serve in the Dutch contingent of the UN Peace Force in Cyprus.

    KIBRIS , quoting Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad says that the Argentinean commander, has refused to accept the Dutch soldier of dual nationality fearing of soldierīs own safety.
