[01] No one wishes to buy Salamis Bay Hotel in the occupied area

KIBRIS (3.9.96) reports that no customer was found who would be interested in buying the Salamis Bay Hotel in occupied Famagusta which was put on sale at a base price of 17 million USD. The so-called council responsible for the selling of the Salamis Bay Hotel, in the face of this development, referred the issue to the so-called Council of Ministers. (MY)

[02] Denktash on Arsenis's visit to Cyprus

According to KIBRIS (3.9.96), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, commenting on Greece's National Defence Minister Yerasimos Arsenis's statement that the Turkish occupation forces will leave Cyprus, said that "if Arsenis wishes the Turkish troops to leave the island, then Mr. Arsenis should remove the reasons that brought these heroic troops to Cyprus".

Denktash also referred to President Clerides's joyful welcoming of the Greek tank-landing ship SAMOS at Limassol port and claimed: "The diplomats and the UN who have yet to understand why Clerides refuses to come to the negotiation table should think over Clerides' joyful welcoming of the ship."

He accused President Clerides of "advancing on the path that will definitely divide the island".

As for his role during the Dherinia incidents, Denktash alleged that he had urged the Turkish youth to be calm.
