KIBRIS also reports that Denktash's police will announce further measures during the coming days. The paper adds that on Sunday Cyprus' National Guard and the occupation Forces will be put on alert. According to KIBRIS, Republican Turkish Party (RTP) leader, Mehmet Ali Talat has sent separate letters to the Greek Cypriot party leaders regarding the Motorcyclists action and asked them to take necessary measures to stop it. He said that this action will escalate the intercommunal tension and increase chauvinist feelings. On the other hand the fascist Idealist Hearth Organization, in a statement warned the occupation authorities taking military measures against the protesters and urged that since it is a civilian activity it should be met with a civilian activity. It declared that it decided to make necessary preparation to cross into free areas and go to Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca, on Sunday. The fascist Idealist Hearth Organization called on the Turkish Cypriots to listen the organizations' call on 10 August, 1996 and act accordingly. In its turn KTAMS, the Turkish Cypriot Civil Servants Trade Union, has declared that the Greek Cypriot Motorcyclists ride will do nothing but increase the mistrust between the two communities. On the other hand INAF the so-called International Affairs Agency, a cover up organization of Turkish Intelligence to disseminate misinformation, alleges that "Motorcyclists will attack the TRNC borders with the EU and Greek flags, iron chains and bars and Molotof Cocktails". INAF alleges that carrying Greek and EU flag the "Greek Cypriot administration wants to convey the message that "Cyprus is within Greece's national borders and the whole island is a member of the EU." (MY) [02] Two Greeks to serve 5 days for "violating" `Military Zones'According to illegal Bayrak radio (7.8.96), two Greek citizens who were abducted in Kokkina have been sentenced to prison terms of five days each. At the end of the trial, which was held at the so-called military court linked to the so-called Security Forces Command, military prosecutor Yasar Atasagun sentenced the two Greeks, Athanasios Trifkaris and Dimitrios Kotsis, to five days each. It has been announced that the sentence will be effective as of today. Atasagun said that the maximum sentence for such an offense is two years. He noted, however, that he arrived to the conclusion that the two suspects had no ulterior motives, adding that the help extended by the suspects to the police soon after their capture was considered mitigating circumstances. After serving their sentence at the Nicosia Central Prison, the Greek citizens will either be sent to free areas or will be allowed to depart for another country via the occupied area depending on the decision to be made by the so-called Turkish Cypriot authorities.The two Greek citizens in question drifted off Kokkina area when their motorboat broke down after sailing from Paphos on 1 August. [03] Demirel discusses economic, Cyprus issues with RTP delegationAccording to YENIDUZEN (7.8.96), Turkish President Suleyman Demirel has stressed the importance of not assuming the position of the intransigent side on the Cyprus issue and added: "However, the minimum conditions cannot be given up. It is not easy to give up the flag and the territory". A Turkish Cypriot delegation headed by Mehmet Ali Talat, Republican Turkish Party, RTP leader, went to Ankara yesterday to discuss the Cyprus issue and the country's economic situation with Turkish state and government officials. The delegation met with President Demirel and Abdullah Gul, state minister in charge of Cyprus affairs.At the meeting, Demirel stressed the importance of keeping the Turkish Cypriot's morale high, pointing to the possibility that a solution to the Cyprus issue may be prolonged. Explaining that the "TRNC" cannot be considered as separate from the Republic of Turkey, Demirel added that Turkey should extend support to the occupied area and that a solution should be found to the water and electricity issues, Demirel added that he will discuss these issues with Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan today. Commenting on the Cyprus issue, Demirel said that Turkey is not the one that is putting obstacles in the way of a viable agreement. Demirel further stated that he explained this situation to US President Bill Clinton and stressed to him the importance of Greek Cypriot participation in the negotiation process. Noting, in turn, that closer interest from Turkey is expected in order to overcome the economic issues, Talat pointed to the importance of securing an economy that is able to stand on its own two feet. The RTP delegation will meet today with General Cevik Bir, deputy chief of the General Staff, and return to the island tomorrow. [04] The ambassador of France met with Dervis Eroglu and Serdar DenktashAccording to "VATAN" (8.8.96) the ambassador of France held yesterday separate meetings with National Unity Party leader, Dervis Eroglu and Democratic Party leader, Serdar Denktash.According to Eroglu, they exchanged views on the Cyprus problem and other issues.
