[01] Eroglu `satisfied' with results of meeting with Denktash

According to illegal Bayrak radio (5.8.96) National Unity Party (UBP) leader Dervis Eroglu, who is assigned the task of forming the pseudo-government, has held his first contacts with the Democratic Party (DP). Eroglu stated that a unity of views was reached with DP leader Serdar Denktash to the effect that they should come together once again.

In reply to a question on whether the meeting with the DP was held on blank paper, Eroglu said: "The papers are always blank. The papers are filled in only if you write something on them. We will fill in these papers."

Reiterating that the DP insists on setting up a "government" that will take action, Serdar Denktash added: "We will meet with Eroglu again after he meets with officials from the other parties. Wishing Eroglu success in the task assigned to him,". Denktash added that a new beginning was launched today and noted that no proposals have been submitted yet, explaining that the previous negotiations cannot be disregarded.

[02] Denktash alleges Greek Cypriots trying to strike `last blow'

According to illegal Bayrak Radio (5.8.96), Denktash has alleged that recent statements by President Clerides prove that the Greek Cypriots aim to reinstate the pre-1974 situation and stressed that it is time the world realizes this truth.

Referring to the speech delivered by President Clerides at the meeting held in the Dherinia region, Denktash said that Clerides' statement raises realities to which the Turkish world and the Turkish Cypriots in particular should pay serious attention.

Denktash alleged "with the help of Hellenism and Greece, the Greek Cypriots are preparing to strike the last blow in a bid to unite the island with Greece in complete disregard of human rights."

Denktash called for the cancellation of Sunday's demonstration by the Greek Cypriots bikers.

[03] CDD resolution to the UN officials

According to KIBRIS (6.8.96) the so-called contemporary Democracy Association (CDD) has submitted a resolution to the UN peace force officials to be given to the UN Secretary General Boutros Ghali.

The chairman of the "CDD" Bengu Sonya has declared that "the action by the Greek Cypriot Motorcyclists is nothing but an attack directed to the Turkish Cypriots' right to live. This action will have negative repercussions."

Sonya alleged that the "Green Line" has saved the Turkish Cypriots from domination. Sonya further said that they have sent letters to the UN Security Council five permanent members claiming that they consider the action by the motorcyclists as an attack against their right to live. (MY)

    [04] RTP delegation to Turkey

KIBRIS (6.8.96) reports that a three-man delegation from the Republican Turkish Party, RTP, headed by its general chairman Mehmet Ali Talat will be leaving the occupied area for Ankara where it will be received by Turkish President Suleyman Demirel and will hold contacts with the Turkish officials.

The RTP delegation's visit to Ankara will last two days during which economic, political and other issues related to the Cyprus problem will be discussed. (MY)

[05] Syrian held in occupied areas

KIBRIS (6.8.96) reports that Syrian national Muhammed Khir Jovirch (32) (as spelled by the paper) who crossed into the occupied area, has been given three days remand order by the so-called Denktash's Military Court.

Jovirch had crossed the occupied area from Nicosia's free areas, the other night. (MY)
