[02] SERDAR DENKTASH SAYS "COALITION" WITH NUP NOT POSSIBLE
According to illegal Bayrak Radio (1530 hrs, 26/7/96) Demo
cratic Party (DP) leader Serdar Denktash has said that at this
latest stage, a "coalition" between the DP and the National Unity
Party (NUP) does not seem possible. Denktash said that his party
does not have any more concessions to make to the NUP.
Serdar Denktash replied to questions during the "From Within
the Week" program broadcasted live on illegal Bayrak Radio.
The DP leader said that the most ideal way to solve the
problems facing the pseudostate would be to set up a "national
government" made up of the parties represented at the "Assembly".
He said that under the current conditions, however, only a
"government" established by a party that can tackle all the prob
lems can solve the difficulties facing the pseudostate. Denktash
said that the name of the party is not important in this case and
that what is important is to have the determination to solve the
problems. That is why we still insist on the establishment of an
executive "government", he said, adding that this is necessary in
order to unravel the big tangle of problems.
He stated that the DP does not insist on being part of the
executive "government" and that the NUP and the Republican Turk
ish Party (RTP) can set up an executive "government".
Replying to a question, he said that the DP is trying to open
a debate on the "presidential" system. He added that, given the
conditions in the pseudostate, the "presidential system" is the
one that works in a more stable way and one that will prevent the
recurrence of the present problems.
