[01] Turks claim UN Secretary-General's report "pro-Greek"
According to KIBRIS (13.6.96), the so-called New York
representative of the pseudo-state Osman Ertug, has described as
"pro-Greek Cypriot" the Cyprus report, submitted to the UN
Security Council by the UN Secretary-General, proposing the
extension of the UN peace-keeping force mandate in Cyprus.
Ertug alleged that the report included pro-Greek Cypriot views
and ignored the "injustices" done to the Turkish Cypriot side. He
stated that the report did not mention the joint defense doctrine
between the Greek Cypriot side and Greece. He said: "The last
border incident has been unnecessarily exaggerated in line with
the Greek Cypriot position".
Ertug claimed that all the efforts made by the pseudo-state
regarding humanitarian issues were ignored while what the Greek
Cypriots did was applauded in the report. He said that it was
noteworthy that this situation emerged only after the Cyprus
Government and Greece agreed to pay half of the expenses of the
UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus.
[02] New propaganda book by Gazioglu
According to KIBRIS (13.6.96), a new book by Ahmet C. Gazioglu
"Turks in the Enosis Encirclement" was put into circulation.
The 505-page book is published in Istanbul by Cyprus Research and
Publishing Centre. (MY)
[03] Retired non-commissioned officers: "Do you push the people to revolt?"
According to KIBRIS (13.6.96) the Executive Committee of the
so-called Retired Non-commissioned Officers Association in a
written statement criticized the recent increase in the
price of milk and dairy products. The statement reads: "Now,
with the uncouth price increase you are depriving our children
of a basic food. You are either unaware of what you are doing or
so ambitious to hold on to power that you are completely blind".
Pointing out that in several countries milk which is a basic food
is distributed free of change, the Association added: "We have
given up the idea of milk supply free of charge. However, the
price increase is too big. Do you push the people to revolt? Be
careful. If one sows the wind he will reap the whirlwind".
The association further urged the pseudo-regime to curb the flow
of illegal workers from Turkey. (MY)
[04] Turkish State Minister visits pseudo-state
According to KIBRIS (13.6.96), Turkish State Minister Ali Talip
Ozdemir is to arrive in the occupied area tomorrow to inaugurate
Hakkari handicraft and woven malting-kilim exhibition.
He will be accompanied by Hakkari governor, Hakkari Mayor,
Hakkari Police Chief, Hakkari Attorney, Hakkari criminal court
judge and other officials. (MY)
[05] Occupation regime forbids Turkish Cypriot guests to attend Queen's birthday reception
According to YENIDUZEN (13.6.96), the Turkish Cypriot regime
did not allow around 100 Turkish Cypriot guests to attend the
reception given in the free areas by the British High Commission
on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's birthday.
Yeniduzen says that two weeks ago the British High Commission
applied for permission to 100 Turkish Cypriot guests. The
Turkish Cypriot authorities announced that it was not appropriate
for guests to cross into the free areas. (MY)
