[01] Denktash repeats intransigent views
VATAN (23.4.96) publishes Denktash's message on the
occasion of the day of the "national sovereignty" of Turkey and
the "children's fiesta" where he repeats once again that "nobody
has the power to drag the Turkish Cypriots into the EU before the
status, the equality and sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot side
is defined and before Turkey becomes a member." He also repeated
that they will never relinquish Turkey's guarantees. ATH/EF
[02] Turkish Cypriot press faces problem
All papers (23.4.96) report that the Turkish Cypriot
press is facing many problems, among which a reduced circulation.
At a meeting yesterday between Atun and Talat and
representatives of five Turkish Cypriot newspapers the problems
emanating from the circulation of Turkish mainland newspapers in
the occupied area were discussed.
Talat suggested imposing a special "tax" on Turkish press
in order to strengthen Turkish Cypriot press. ATh/EF
