As you know, the CU financial protocol is not being implemented now because Greece is preventing it. Furthermore, the meeting of the Association Council scheduled for this month is also in question. So far, the French have always helped us regarding this issue. Juppe said that France will continue to support us." The Prime minister also emphasized that unless the Cyprus problem is resolved, Cyprus cannot join the EU. Yilmaz said that he invited Juppe to Turkey, and that Pre- sident Chirac will arrive in Turkey before autumn. Yilmaz stressed that Turkey is starting a period where very intensive relations must be conducted within the framework of the EU, that he and Tansu Ciller decided to conduct these relations together, and that when he will not be able to pay certain for- eign visits, Ciller will do so. Replying to another question, Mesut Yilmaz denied press reports that there are misunderstandings between him and DYP leader Ciller regarding the appointment of high-level bureau- crats. Yilmaz said that he might meet with Albanian President Ber- isha, the British deputy prime minister, the Czech prime minis- ter, the leader of Greece's New Democracy, and the representative of the German chancellor. [02] BRITISH DOCTORS TO MAKE PROPOSALS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF MEDICAL SERVICES IN PSEUDOSTATEAccording to KIBRIS (14.3.96) with a view to improving medi- cal services in the occupied area, two British expert doctors have been invited to the occupied area to study and submit a report with proposals. (MY) [03] PSEUDOSTATE TO SEEK LAWYER'S ADVICE ON EU ISSUESAccording to KIBRIS (14.3.96) the so-called Council of Min- isters of the pseudostate has approved the appointment of an International Lawyer, regarding the issue to be discussed within the EU and which is related to the pseudostate.KIBRIS says that it has been decided that on such issues Prof. E. Lauterpact's legal advice shall be sought. Expenses regarding payment and others will be arranged by the so-called Economy and Finance Ministry. (MY) [04] "HONORARY CONSUL" OF PSEUDOSTATE TO SAUDI ARABIAAccording to KIBRIS (14.3.96) Dr. Ihsan Kaya Okur has been appointed as the so-called Honorary Consul of the pseudostate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Conference.KIBRIS says that Dr. Ihsan Kaya Okur is currently working at the King Abdulari Hospital in Jeddah, as Chief Surgeon. (MY) [05] MOTHERPATH WINS CONFIDENCE VOTEAccording to Turkish Daily News (13/3/96) the Motherland Party (ANAP) - True Path Party (DYP) minority government, formed two and a half months after the Dec. 24 general election, won a vote of confidence in Turkish Parliament on Tuesday but the indi- rect support which enabled this victory seems tenuous.The coalition government led by ANAP's Mesut Yilmaz received 257 votes in favor and 207 against, while 80 deputies abstained. A total 544 deputies were present in the 550-seat Parliament and the votes in favor fell short of an absolute majority of 276 votes. |
