The Head Doctor at the Nalbantoglu hospital, Zeka Mahirel, has said that he did not know how long Yagcioglu's treatment will take or when he will be able to return to the occupied area. (MY) [02] LORD FINSBERG URGES FOR CONCILIATIONAccording to KIBRIS (9.2.96) the rapporteur of the Political Committee of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, British Conservative MP Lord Finsberg, who is currently in Cyprus, had various contacts in the occupied area and has sug- gested that President Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash should come together even if it is just for having a cup of coffee. "This meeting should be realized between these two persons who know each other for years. This will not cause any harm but it will prove beneficial. No one else should be present at the meeting", he said.Lord Finsberg said that the Cyprus problem has lasted for too long and that the Council of Europe was look into the issue and see how it could play a role in finding a just solution to the problem. He pointed out that there was a big communication gap between the two communities in Cyprus, which caused the individuals of each community to be afraid of each other. Lord Finsberg said that he was a realist and that if there is good will and conciliatory spirit, then finding a solution is possible. "You have to reconcile" he urged. Lord Finsberg said that after Cyprus he will visit Greece and Turkey and then he will prepare a report which will be an impar- tial one. "There will be things in the report which will please or upset the sides. It will be a sincere report based on rea- lities" said Lord Finsberg and added that their aim is to help to find a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem. Lord Finsberg further added that with the present status quo in Cyprus, it was impossible for the Turkish Cypriot community to be represented at the Council of Europe. "Only the recognized state's parliament has the right to appoint members to the council of Europe, and in Cyprus, the Republic of Cyprus is the recognized state", stressed Lord Fins- berg. However, added Lord Finsbert, they also want to hear the Turkish Cypriot community's voice and they will try to make the voice of both sides to be heard equally at the Council of Europe. (MY) [03] TURKISH CYPRIOT STUDENTS TO ATTEND AIESEC CONGRESSAccording to KIBRIS (9.2.96) four students of the so-called East Mediterranean University, who are members of the AIESEC, will be leaving for Dublin, Ireland, to attend "The Benibrits - 96 AIESEC Congress".The Congress will be opened on 12 February 1996 by Irish President Mary Simpson. (MY) [04] PILOT OF FATAL BOEING 757 A CITIZEN OF THE PSEUDOSTATEAccording to KIBRIS (9.2.96) the pilot of the Boeing 757-200, which crushed into the sea near the Dominican Republic, Mehmet Muhlis Evrenosoglu, was made citizen of the pseudostate by Denk- tash's regime back in 1992. (MY) [05] TURKISH CYPRIOTS TO SUBMIT REPORT TO LORD FINSBERGAccording to KIBRIS (9.2.96) Lord Finsberg has asked the Turkish Cypriot leadership to submit to him a report that includes the views of the Turkish Cypriots regarding the Cyprus problem as well as Cyprus' membership to the EU. The report, prepared by Denktash, was discussed yesterday with the Turkish Cypriot party leaders. The report is yet to be handed over to Lord Finsberg. |
