COMPLETION OF THE VISIT OF THE ARCHBISHOP OF FINLAND TO THE PATRIARCHATE OF ALEXANDRIA

With the best impressions and in total satisfaction from his official peaceful visit to the Alexandrian Patriarchate, His Eminence Leon, Archbishop of Karelia and All Finland departed from Alexandria in the early hours of Tuesday 20 April 2004. His Eminence was seen off by His Beatitude Petros VII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, together with His Grace George, Bishop of Niloupolis and clergy of the Patriarchate, the Consul General of Greece, Mrs Constantina Athanasiadou, as well as the Honorary Consul of Finland in Egypt.

During this official visit, the two Hierarchs confirmed the indissoluble bonds between the two Churches, their common path in inter-Christian dialogue and their mutual views. The bonds of co-operation were strengthened in the field of missions and a scholarship was offered for Africans to study at the Theological school of Finland.

His Eminence the Archbishop had the opportunity of discussing issues of common ecclesiastical interest with the Primate of the Alexandrian Church and to get to know at first hand the missionary centre, to visit the buildings of the Patriarchal Palace, the Patriarchal Vicarage and the Cathedral Church of the Annunciation which are under renovation, alteration and maintenance, as also the Patriarchal Vicarage in Cairo and many other things.
