[01] US strongly supports UN offices mission on Cyprus

The US strongly supports and stands ready to assist the UN good offices mission in its efforts to assist the parties on the island in reaching a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue, the US State Department Spokesman, Mr Richard Boucher stated during his daily briefing of the press yesterday. We stress the need for more urgency in these negotiations in order to reach an agreement by the June target date, Mr Boucher said.

[02] Koshis : Cyprus is ready to participate in the creation of European Border Police

The Minister of Justice and Public Order Mr Nikos Koshis represented Cyprus in the Conference on the Establishment of a European Border Police which took place in Rome. The Conference was attended by the Ministers of the EU member and candidate states in charge of justice and home affairs.

Speaking to the Conference, Mr Koshis expressed Cyprus' support and readiness to participate in the creation of a European Border Police.

On the sidelines of the Conference, Mr Kohis met with the Italian Prime Minister Mr Silvio Berlusconi, who expressed his government's thanks for Cyprus' contribution to combat illegal immigration.

The Cypriot Minister had also meetings with his counterparts of Greece, Belgium, Malta and Slovakia and exchanged views with them on common interest issues.
