The Foreign Minister Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, who is currently on a three-day
visit to Berlin, had a meeting yesterday with German Deputy Foreign
Minister in charge of European Affairs Mr Christoph Zopel. During the
meeting Mr Kasoulides briefed Mr Zopel on the efforts to reach a solution
to the Cyprus problem, within the framework of the direct talks between
President Clerides and the Turkish Cypriot leader Mr Denktash.
They also discussed the last chapters of Cyprus' EU harmonisation process
with the acquis communautaire, that are expected to close by autumn, as
well as other issues of common interest.
Earlier, Mr Kasoulides attended a lunch given in his honour by the Cyprus
Ambassador to Germany, Mr Christos Psilogenis. Members of the German
Foreign Ministry, of the German Parliament, of the European Union
Delegation to Berlin, and Ambassadors of various European countries were
also invited.
Today, Mr Kasoulides will hold official talks with his German counterpart
Mr Joschka Fischer.
