The Foreign Minister Mr Ioannis Kasoulides made a statement yesterday on
Cyprus' EU accession course.
"The position of the Cyprus Government as it has been laid out and remains
unchanged is as follows:
The Cyprus government is negotiating the accession of the whole of Cyprus
in the name of the whole of Cyprus.
We would prefer it if a solution of the Cyprus problem preceded our EU
accession but if this is not possible, then we will proceed with accession
without a solution, requesting a suspension of the implementation of the
European acquis on areas, which are not - due to occupation - under the
control of the legal Government.
The Turkish threats, whatever these are, must not bend our resoluteness to
proceed to accession with or without a solution of the Cyprus problem."
