A letter has been sent to the UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, by the
Representative of Cyprus to the UN in which the recent illegal archaeological
excavations in the occupied Salamina are denounced.
In the letter it was mentioned that the Turkish government, as an
occupation force, is held fully responsible for these illegal excavations
which violate all international conventions and all other related
references. Moreover, it was noted that these excavations have a destructive
effect on the island's cultural heritage.
The afore-mentioned letter has circulated as a document of the General
Assembly of the UN Security Council.
