[01] Turkey jeopardising its Council of Europe participation
Turkey is jeopardising its participation in the Council of Europe by not
complying with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, said
British MP Tom Cox.
Speaking today at the 3rd part of the 2001 Session of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, Mr Cox clearly warned that
if Turkey does not comply with the decisions of the Court, then both he,
and other members of the Assembly would question Turkey's participation in
the Council of Europe.
Mr Cox said that in the case of (May 10th 2001), the European Court of
Human Rights had found Turkey guilty of violating 14 articles of the
European Convention on Human Rights and recalled that Turkey had also
failed to comply with the same Court's decision regarding the case of Greek
Cypriot refugee (28 July 1998).
