[01] Cyprus excluded from OECD black list
Cyprus' Finance Minister Takis Klerides has welcomed the exclusion of
Cyprus from an OECD list naming tax havens applying harmful tax practices.
"We have committed ourselves to taking all those measures necessary to
exclude us from the black list of the organization. This was a difficult
decision but the right decision," the Minister said, pointing out that the
repercussions on Cyprus would have been far greater if it were included in
the black list.
He added that Cyprus will continue to offer services as an offshore centre
for international activities and hopes not only to retain the units it has
but also to increase their number.
Speaking on his departure for Paris to attend the symposium of the
Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) Paris which
starts today, Mr Klerides said this is an honour for Cyprus and the first
time the island has been invited to such a meeting.
The meeting will deal with matters of interest to us, such as harmful tax
practices, he said.
