[01] Medical Bulletin issued after President Clerides' operation
The President of the Republic, Mr Glafcos Clerides, was admitted to the
operating theatre at 8:10 a.m. today.
The operation for the removal of a polypoid tumor on the large intestine
began at 8:30 p.m. and ended at 12 noon. The operation went smoothly
without any particular problems. The polypoid tumor was excised and an end-
to-end anastomosis was done. The President came round normally and was
transferred to the intensive care unit. His condition is stable and
satisfactory. The following surgeons took part in the operation: George
Kyriakides, Vasos Makris, Andreas Constantinides and Michalis Theophanous.
Also present at the operation were his personal physicians Agis Syrimis and
Joseph Kasios and the gastroenterologist Georege Pavlides. His anaesthetists
were Emi Kasoulides and Olek Lomaka.
The next medical bulletin will be issued at 8 this evening.
