The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr Nicos Rolandis concluded last Saturday his seven day visit to the United States, the primary aim of which was to promote efforts to create a high technology industry in Cyprus. Mr Rolandis expressed satisfaction for the positive developments of his contacts in the United States in the field of high technology.

During his visit Mr Rolandis addressed a seminar entitled "The New Industrial Policy of Cyprus for the Development of High Technology Industries in Cyprus". The seminar was held at the Institute of Technology of Massachusetts and was addressed to scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and financial institutions in the United States.

In his address Mr Rolandis pointed out that Cyprus has the ability to develop into an international centre since it constitutes a pivot for European countries and the Mediterranean basin. He said that the forthcoming Euro-Mediterranean Industry Seminar to be held in Cyprus in June with the participation of 27 Ministers offers generous high technology programmes and expressed the hope that many people will take advantage of them.

Cyprus will contribute a sum of up to 100,000 pounds for the promotion of high technology through the establishment of incubators and the creation of a Centre for carrying out applied research and technological development in high technology fields, he said.
