[01] President Clinton considers proximity talks as a positive step towards
a just Cyprus settlement
[02] New Accountant general appointed
In his bimonthly report on Cyprus, US President Bill Clinton referred to
the start of proximity talks on Cyprus on 3 December as "a positive step
toward bringing about a just and lasting solution for all Cypriots and
improving Greco-Turkish relations for a more secure southern Europe".
President Clinton's bimonthly report on Cyprus covers the period from
October 1 to November 30, 1999 and was submitted yesterday to the US
Congress.
The President of the Republic Mr. Glafcos Clerides appointed today Mr.
Lazaros Lazarou as the Republic's new Accountant General.
At a special ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, President Clerides
congratulated Mr.Lazarou and wished him success in his duties.
