[01] New Ministers of Education and Defence appointed
The President of the Republic Mr. Glafcos Clerides appointed last Tuesday
Supreme Court judge Yiannakis Chrysostomis as Defence Minister and Disy
deputy Ouranios Ioannides as Minister of Education. The new ministers
replace Messrs Yiannakis Omirou and Lycourgos Kappas respectively. The
latter resigned after Socialist Party's (EDEK) decision to withdraw from
government, in protest at President Clerides' decision not to deploy the S-
300 anti-aircraft missiles in Cyprus
The new ministers assume office today.
